Following the recent Maths Challenge myself and three other 3rd year students accompanied by Mrs McCormick and Mrs McInnes were asked to attend the UKMT Mathematical Circle for a two day event at Govan High School. Two busy days were planned for 20th and 21st of April giving us the opportunity to investigate new mathematical topics.

The UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) is a registered charity whose aim is to advance the education of children and young people in mathematics. The UKMT organise national mathematics competitions and other mathematical enrichment activities for school pupils.

Throughout the two day mathematics event, many pupils from schools all over Scotland were educated in areas such as geometry, card tricks, dissections and paper folding. The day’s provided interesting ways in which mathematics can be applied in our every day lives and there were many mentors on hand to help answer any questions raised by pupils.

The event gave us the opportunity to interact with pupils from schools all over the country and provided an array of problems which stretched and inspired us. This undoubtedly helped us develop our mathematical problem solving skills.
