Football Boys Off to a Winning Start

The Senior Boys’ Football Team played their opening league fixture on Wednesday and got off to a great start with a 9-2 victory over Spittal.  There were actually 6 of the 9 players making their debuts and they did us all proud.  After a nervy start, where Hallside twice took the lead, before conceding equalisers, they took command of the game and made the 3 points safe.  The team consisted of Andrew Rushbury in goal, Adam Costello and, captain, Andrew Greenen at the back, with Feraz Tanveer helping out there too.  In Midfield we had Keiran Stewart, Lewis Cameron, Rhys Conner and Euan Coleman and up front was Reece Paterson.  Well done to all of the players and to the coach, David Hamilton.  A great start to the defence of the title they won last year.

Boys Defeat Cathkin

The boys continued their potential march towards back to back league titles with an impressive and hard fought 9-1 victory over Cathkin Primary.  In a game that was much closer than the scoreline suggests, Hallside had to work very hard to get in at half time with a 3-0 lead. Man of the Match Jonathan McLean, the Hallside goalkeeper, had pulled off 3 stunning saves to keep Hallside in front, however after the restart, Cathkin scored to make it 3-1 and Hallside had a jittery spell where Jonathan McLean again came to their rescue with further saves and bravery at the feet of the Cathkin strikers.  As Cathkin pressed for more goals to get back into the game, Hallside broke up the park time and again to pilfer goals on the counter and to end Cathkin’s hopes of a win.  The boys now just need one more victory from their final two matches to clinch the championship.

Next fixture: vs Burnside, 6th June kick off 3.15pm.

Girls Lift the Cup

The girls team stunned Garrowhill with a brilliant 6-3 victory in the sunshine this afternoon to lift the All Girls Challenge Cup.  After Hallside raced into a 2-0 lead with two goals by Courtney McGowan, Garrowhill pulled a goal back before half time to make it 2-1 in a first half that was end to end.  Hallside restored their two goal advantage by going 3-1 ahead through Lauren Muir, before being pegged back again at 3-2.  Hallside then piled on the pressure with Milan Graham scoring to go 4-2 ahead, then 5-2 with a strike from Lucy Rosenbloom.  Garrowhill pulled it back to 5-3 and really hemmed in Hallside for the final 5 minutes.  Sheree Dunsmore, the Hallside keeper, blocked a point blank effort from the Garrowhill striker to keep Hallside 2 goals ahead before Hallside scored a 6th in the dying seconds, through Milan Graham, to settle the nerves of their travelling support.

Captain Lauren Muir stepped up to receive the trophy at the end of the game and the crowd went wild.  Congratulations to Heather Jackson who won player of the match.  Well done girls.

Boys Defeat Calderwood

Hallside Boys Football team took a huge step towards being the first school ever to secure back to back league titles with a brilliant team display against top of the table Calderwood.  Andrew Lindsay hit 5, Cameron Fulton got 3, Marco McGillivray chipped in with 2 and Jay Cowan and David Thompson grabbed one each in a 13-0 victory.
