Here are primary 4/5 working hard to help clean up Boddam beach on Wednesday afternoon of 1st May.
In the morning Esther Renwick talked to P4/5/6 about how archaeologists work to find and piece together evidence to work out how people lived in the past. I think everyone will agree that it was really interesting. Some people even said they’d like to be archaeologists!
In the afternoon Stephen Renwick came dressed up in a costume from the past. We had to guess who he was. Of course he was a Viking warrior! Then he taught us more about life in Viking times. Everyone thought it was really fun and interesting.
What a great week of Viking learning everyone has had. Can’t wait for the big day tomorrow!!!!!
On Wednesday Yvonne from the museum came to visit the school. Here are Primary 4, 5 and 6 learning about life in Viking times.

Helmets, shields and torches all finished ready for the big day!
As well as having their normal art and PE lessons today Primary 4/5 enjoyed doing Viking craft with Mrs Leslie. They made super pictures of Viking galleys.
They also did the finishing touches to their Viking helmets today. They gave themselves Viking warrior nicknames like: Bobby the Brave, Magnus the Magnificent or Ava the Adventurer and wrote them in Viking Runes on their helmets.
What a great way to start a Monday morning in P4/5- making torches for SMUHA!
Then we had a break from SMUHA with a visit from a representative from the NSPCC to tell us about children’s rights and keeping ourselves safe.
After break we were getting into the spirit of SMUHA by learning some traditional Shetland dances with Maria Leask. We learned the Boston Two Step, the Circasion Circle and to round if off we did the Grand March-just in case we are ever at a Shetland wedding!
To finish of our Monday here we are painting our shields for SMUHA!
Primary 4/5 presented their class assembly to parents, family and friends on Friday 15th February. They were all very excited and a bit nervous beforehand but I think everyone will agree that they needn’t have worried as they all did a brilliant job of explaining, demonstrating and telling all their learning and information confidently and clearly. A huge well done to everyone and thank you to so many friends and family who came to support them. The children were all delighted!
Primary 4/5 have been learning about sound. Here we are carrying out some experiments to investigate how to change the pitch of a sound.
On Thursday 18th November Mr Rose brought the Planetarium in to school. We all had a brilliant afternoon learning all about the star constellations and the stories from ancient Greek myths telling how they got their names. It was a great way to get everyone interested in the stars and to go out and look at the night sky!

It made me want to go out and look at the stars that night and I saw the Plough and the planet Mars-Matthew
I knew about one or two constellations and thought the rest was just all lots of stars. I didn’t realise that there were so many different constellations that you could look for-Ava
We all thought it was an amazing afternoon!!!!
This week we have been practising our teamwork skills. We had to work together to build a car using 3 carrots, cocktail sticks and a piece of string. The car had to be able to move as we were going to race them! Everyone had great fun doing this and showed how well we can work in groups together making decisions, sharing equipment and carrying out different roles within the team. We got pegs for “the most realistic car”, “the most creative car”, “the car which moved best when pulled or pushed along” and finally for “the car that won the race.”
This term we have been learning about light. Here we are doing some tests to find out about the properties of light. We are also learning about how the movement of the sun, Earth and moon gives us our measurements of time. We will then be learning more about space.
