End of term 3
On 9th March it was SMUHA. Here we are with our fabulous galley and our torches and shields all ready for the big day!
On 15th March we had a visit from PC Lauren Smith. She told us a little about dangers of drugs, and alcohol to health and links to anti social behaviour. She told us about her job and demonstrated how to use some of her equipment.
Here we are wearing our odd socks for Downs Syndrome awareness day.

World Book Day
For World book day our school challenge was to dress/design a fruit or vegetable as a favourite character from a book! Here are some p4/5’s with their fantastic creations. Everyone also brought in their favourite books to show to their classmates and tell a little about them.
P4/5 Class Assembly
Primary 4/5 have enjoyed learning about the human body this term. They all did a super job of presenting some of their learning at their class assembly on 28th Feb. There were a few children who were feeling a bit poorly on the day and there were others who had to work around group members who were absent that morning but they all coped admirably. A huge well done to everyone!

Primary 4/5 making the most of the snow on Tuesday morning, while it lasted!!!!!
Back to school!
Primary 4/5 are back at school working hard after the winter break. Their new topic is ” The Human body”. Here they are working in co-operative groups on grafitti boards to establish what they know already about the topic and what they want to find out about it. They knew quite a lot and they have learned lots of new things already!
We have also started our wider achievement afternoons this term. In the p 4/5 class some children have chosen to do craft work. Here are some p 3/4/5 children weaving baskets or making cross stitch pictures. Thank you to Mrs Tregonning for helping out!
Merry Christmas from primary 4/5
Can’t believe its Christmas already. These two terms have gone so fast.
Primary 4/5 have been busy learning about Scottish history this term. Among other things, they have written some very gory stories about fighting with Robert the Bruce at the battle of Bannockburn!
They have worked hard to learn and practice their dance routine and song for the Christmas concert and I’m sure you’ll agree they did a fantastic job!
So here they are now, all dressed up in their Christmas jumpers, to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Primary 4/5 topic
Our topic this term is castles. We have been learning about technology in the middle ages. First we revised some work on energy and forces from last year.
Then we did some experiments to learn about levers and how they are used to do work. We learned that the longer the lever the less effort needed to lift a heavy load but you can’t lift it very far. If you put the load on the long end and the effort on the short end you have to use a lot of force but you can lift the object higher.
There are three kinds of levers, a first class lever, a second class lever and a third class lever. First class levers are the most efficient kind then second then third.
 
We have been learning how castles were attacked and defended. Gatehouses made the entrance to the castle stronger.
Drawbridges could be pulled up when under attack.  We made model gatehouses with working drawbridges. A drawbridge is a third class lever.
Siege machines like the trebuchet were used to attack castles. We made model trebuchets. A trebuchet is a first class lever.
Then we enjoyed testing our trebuchets. They worked really well!! A trebuchet is a first class lever.
We did research on castles and made some super posters which are on our class wall.
