Making a Kite

I made a kite by sticking 4 sticks together, 2 long and 2 short and made a basic diamond shape. I stuck on some string and covered it in blue see through paper. I made two green eyes and a tail. I made it for art but it could fly a little bit. I decorated the string by putting on some green paper.

Glow Meet

On Wednesday we had a glow meet with John Fardell. We got to ask questions, He was speaking about his book called The 7 Professors of the Far North we are reading it at school it is about a boy that is going to his aunts house and on the way he saw a motorbike that was yellow and he went with them instead. This was part of the Fife Book Festival

We learned that you can use lots of little notes and ideas to make a book. After we’d had the glow meet we did some more school work then we went home when I got home I made a book that was called Bob the Plane Driver, It is about a man called Bob and when he goes to the supermarket he meets a man called Richard. I was influenced by John Fardell helping kids make up their one stroy. I enjoyed writing it Dad, Mam and Kerry liked it.

Show and tell

On Monday I did show and tell. My show and tell was about EYE SIGHT! I told everyone about what protects are eyes like the Eyebrows protect our eyes from sweat rolling in them. After I told everyone about our eyes they did a TREASURE HUNT! I made them a treasure hunt to do with vision. I took ten items from my house to see if they had noticed anything different just in the morning. It took a lot of time planning it but it was worth seeing everyone so exited and happy. I had to to stay behind on Friday to get everything ready and it was very hard trying not to tell anybody. Everybody had to record their finds by writing it down on a piece of paper so I could choose a winner.

On Tuesday I took the Prizes for the winner and the person with the least points. Charlotte won first prize which was a pencil case and Leah won the other prize which was a glittery frog snappy bracelet.

My Weekend

On Saturday we went to the Yell Show. You can enter pretty much any thing you want photos, veg, models, cakes and animals. There is lucky dips, darts, air rifle and places to buy Shetland related stuff. I won a 1st prise for my biggest toties and got a well done for my small ones.

On Sunday I went on my yellow Quad with the sellotape stripes wearing my yellow hellmet with the dragon on the sides in the park in front of my house. The tyres are so worn that I have perfected my power slides. I have driven round the park so many times there is a yellow track that I follow. It is scary at one corner wich is a left Down hill and with ruined tyres.

I played with my scalextric up stairs. I have 3 cars, Ford focus and Subaru impreza rally cars and a Lamborghini gallardo. I had a drag race between the focus and gallardo and the gallardo won.

A little girl came to have a shot to win a gorilla and she won one. I went to go and get some freebies at the freebie stall it was about the enviroment (I think.) Harvesting our crops

Today we had to harvest our bere so that it didn’t turn old so we got our jackets on and the big ones got a pair of scissors then we went outside and we started to cut, the little ones got to hold the crops. We got all off the pieces of bere together and then we tied it up together and then we put it near the bike racks and left it to dry. Shetlands tradition is growing crops. In the olden days the people would grow them to make bread. Bere was used to make bere meal they would use it to make bere meal bread.

Today we Harvest our bere. Mary our Crofting connections partner crofter said that we should havest the bere today other wise they will die. Bere is an old Shetland plant. We got some scissors  because we couldn’t get a combine harvester in the school play ground. We started chopping and gathering the bere we chopped it from the bottom. They were a lot of bere in our hands. We tied it togher tightley and put it where the bike stands are.

Cutting Bere

At school in the morning we went to cut the bere with the shears because if we waited any longer it would fall down and die Mary said so we harvested it and when we harvested it and then we left it out so it could dry. Bere is a grain we did not need to use big machinery because its not a big amount of land unlike Mary who ho is our crofting connections partner who uses a tractor to plough her land, not many people grow wheats and oats and things in Yell.
