Cutting Bere

At school in the morning we went to cut the bere with the shears because if we waited any longer it would fall down and die Mary said so we harvested it and when we harvested it and then we left it out so it could dry. Bere is a grain we did not need to use big machinery because its not a big amount of land unlike Mary who ho is our crofting connections partner who uses a tractor to plough her land, not many people grow wheats and oats and things in Yell.

  1. I think people used to grow more of their own cereals when they had to be self sufficient but now its so easy to get things up from south on the boat.
