Week Ending 11.2.22

In Literacy we have been working on plurals – adding s and es to  nouns.

Most nouns add an s (dog – dogs).

Nouns that end in – ch, sh, ss, x, or z- add es (fox – foxes, church – churches).

Nouns that end in y with a consonant before the y – change the y to an i and add es (pony – ponies, baby – babies).

Nouns that end in y with a vowel before the y, just add s (turkey – turkeys, tray – trays).

In spelling we have been using different strategies to learn how to spell some High Frequency Words ( because – big elephants can always upset small elephants).

We have been learning how to use dictionaries and atlases, using alphabetical order and contents pages.   We have studied a map of the United Kingdom and identified the countries and their capital cities.

We are still working on subtraction in number and our problem solving work this week involved different coins.  We have looked at 2D shapes and their properties and know about circles, squares, rectangles, pentagons, hexagons and octagons.  For fun we looked at heptagons, nonagons and decagons.  We used squares and rectangles to tile a pattern and we used gummed shapes to make pictures.

We used the iPads to practise patterns with 2D shapes and used Sketches School to create a picture using 2D Shapes.

This week we have been inspired by four artists who use hearts in their art to celebrate Valentine’s Day on Monday 14th.

  1. James Goldcrown, who is an American street artist who has created ‘bleeding hearts’ walls.
  2. Chris Uphues who is a street artist inspired by comic books.
  3. Romero Britto who is a Brazilian artist who creates pop art and graffiti.
  4. Jim Dine an American artist who creates sculptures.

We had great fun creating our Heart Pictures.

We wish everyone a fantastic February break.

Have fun and stay safe.

We will see everyone on Tuesday 22nd February 2022.   The MUGA

day for Primary 3 will be a Monday.
