For our Climate Change topic this term, we created documentaries on iMovie to give explanations of what climate change is, how humans have affected it and what we can do to slow the process down. We enjoyed being anchormen/women and used lots of different images and sounds effects to engage our audience.

Ordering Fractions
We have been working really hard on equivalent fractions this term. Today, we learned how to order fractions with different denominators by converting them into equivalent fractions. We took ourselves outside to draw numberlines of fractions in the playground, which we then compared with others. We realised how useful our timetables were to help us!
Cricket Lesson 1
A cricket coach will be teaching us how to play cricket this term. We had our first lesson today and we enjoyed being out in the sun! Today we learned how to hold a bat and how to stand properly when hitting the ball. Some of us were fantastic at hitting the ball far enough away to allow us to make loads of home runs. Here are some photos of our lesson.
Walk to School 10/5/17
This week for the walk to school everyone will be required to wear an item in house colours.
Remember, full school uniform must still be worn, however, be creative with accessories in your house colours, such as an osprey wearing red socks.
We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday morning!

Week Beginning 8.5.17
Hi everyone
I hope you all had a lovely weekend enjoying the beautiful weather.
We have been very busy over the past couple of weeks. Firstly, we worked very hard in our engineering groups to complete the challenges that Fire the Baby Dragon set us as part of our Fairyland Topic. All children worked very hard together to build a vehicle to take Cinderella to the Ball. Matthew the engineer visited our school to judge the final testing of the vehicles and chose Isla R and Lucas as the overall winners. They represented Bishopton Primary at the Renfrewshire Showcase Event at Inchinnan and I am very pleased to say that they came 1st in their category. Both children will now go on to represent the school at the Regional Final in Glasgow on the 1st June. Congratulations!
We also had a wonderful time learning with Rookie Rockstars and both perfomance nights at Ingliston were a huge success.
Last week we started our new Habitats topic. We were very lucky to have a visit from the RSPB. We learned about different habitats and looked in the playground for creatures and animals using magnifying glasses. It was lots of fun! Over the next few weeks, we will learning about a variety of different habitats in more detail and the living things that live in each one.
Can I please remind everyone that our Read and Munch day is on a Thursday. Please bring a text of your choice and a healthy snack to school on this day.
We also plan to go outside as much as possible this term for a variety of different things. This includes using the field for P.E. If possible, can I ask that all children bring some outdoor trainers in as the grass can often be a little wet in the morning because of the dew on it. A reminder that our P.E. days are a Wednesday and Friday.

P7 Zombie Apocalypse – Day 2
This afternoon, we had to build a fence with a gate that opens and closes so we can go out for supplies. We used the engineering design process to help us work through our ideas. We had some materials to use and criteria.
Product Criteria:
- Your gate must open and close with a latch.
- Your fence must have a perimeter of least 10 cm.
- Your fence must stand on its own and be at least 7 cm high.
Process Criteria:
- Check the Engineering Design Process below
- Every member of your team must contribute (suggest ideas)
- Every member of your team must have a role (Facilitator, Resource Manager, Time Keeper, Quality Checker)
- Identify the problem: What is the problem the challenge wants you to solve?
- Identify the criteria and constraints. What are the rules of the challenge?
- Brainstorm possible solutions. What are some ways you can complete this challenge?
- Generate ideas. What are some materials you can use?
- Sketch a couple of ideas.
- Select an approach. What design did you pick? Why?
- Build your model or prototype. Does your design work?
- Refine the design. What changes did you have to make, if any?
P7M Cricket 1
This morning we had our first cricket session with Keith. He taught us how hold the bat correctly, how and where to stand and how to hit the ball. Can you tell someone at home something you learned?

P5S – Homework w/b 8.5.17
Good afternoon everyone! I hope you are having a lovely weekend. and have been enjoying the glorious sunshine. This coming week will see us get back to our normal timetable now that our Rookie Rockstars concerts are over.
Here is your homework for this week. As the sun is due to keep shining I have changed our homework format for this week. Please read all areas to ensure you know what has to be completed.
Spelling: Spelling will be completed in class this week therefore there is no written homework.
Reading: Your core reader was issued last Thursday. Once again, there will be no written homework as we will continue to complete our comprehension tasks for the core readers in class. As always, if there is any vocabulary you are unsure of, please take a note of it and we will discuss it in class on Thursday. Please remember to read aloud to someone at home and try to use expression where needed. Your reading feedback form should be completed (if possible) by the person hearing you read aloud. This task should be completed for Thursday.
Personal Reading Challenge: You have 7 weeks to reach the target you set last week. Please remember to bring your book to school as this will allow you to read it during our ERIC sessions.
As there is very little written homework this week (and because hopefully the sun will keep shining) I would like you to increase your personal reading. Please take your book outside (or somewhere different) and read for at least an extra 15 minutes each night. Please ask someone at home to sign your diary to confirm you have done this.
Please remember to record the books in your reading passport as you finish them. The passport is kept in class. Remember this is your record of the number of books you have read so far this term.
H&WB/Writing: As we are having such lovely weather at the moment, your homework is to go outside and play! I would like you to then choose one day from this week and write a short (no more than 50 words) diary extract telling me what you did on that day. Please remember to include the relevant features we have been using in class, eg. time connectives, emotive language. This will make your writing more interesting. You should then post your diary extract on the blog and I will publish them all at the end of the week. Please remember to check you have used your capital letters and punctuation correctly. If you are unable to post on the blog, please complete a paper copy. This task should be completed by Friday.
Maths: There is no written maths homework this week.
If you wish additional practice of your multiplication tables, please use the links below.
- P.E. is on Tuesday and Friday . Please ensure you have a full kit with you in school. We may go outside for P.E. this week (weather permitting) therefore you should have suitable outdoor clothing with you: a jumper or waterproof jacket.
- We have our next library visit on Tuesday. Please bring your library card and any books you may have taken out during our last visit so we can return them.
- Please remember, if you haven’t already ordered it, you can buy the Rookie Rockstar CD from the school at a cost of £5.00.
- Our Fairtrade Tuckshop is on every Wednesday. Please remember to check our rota to see if you are in charge of the tuckshop this week. If you wish to buy something, please remember to bring the exact money to school. Details of prices can be found here.
- Each group will require 3 plastic bottles for an activity we will be completing in class in a few weeks. The bottles should be 1.75l in size. Please start bringing these in as soon as possible.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend. See you all tomorrow.
Mrs O’Neill
P5H Homework and Reminders – w/b 8.5.17
Good afternoon everyone, I hope you are enjoying your weekend. We have another busy week ahead of us. Please continue reading for your homework and reminders.
Spelling: Please complete lists ch, sh, th, or a-e, in your spelling homework jotter for Thursday. Please write out your spelling words 3 times using SaCaWaC in the same way as we do in class. Remember that part of this process is to check and correct your spelling words. Any corrections you have from last week should be completed as part of this week’s homework. You should then choose 6 spelling words you think you can write the best sentences for, and write an up levelled sentence for each of them. This week we are focusing on using interesting openers in each sentence and I will be assessing your use of them. However, this does not mean I am not checking for ambitious vocabulary and fantastic connectives too. We are trying to use all of these to make your sentences the best they can be.
Reading: Your new core reader was issued on Wednesday by Mrs. Livingstone. Please remember to read part of your book aloud to someone at home, using expression where needed. Please ask them to sign your diary to record that they have heard you reading. You should have completed this task ready for your follow up activities with Mrs. Livingstone on Wednesday 10th May.
Personal Reading Challenge: Once again you are taking on this challenge with enthusiasm. You now have 7 weeks left to reach (or beat!) the target you set yourselves this term . Please remember to bring your book to school as this will allow you to read it during ERIC time. Please keep recording the books you have completed this term in your Reading Passports, which is kept in class, so you can see how close you are getting to your target.
Maths: Your homework can be found using the links below. This should be completed in your maths homework jotter and handed in on Thursday.
Please continue to practise your tables with someone at home or by accessing the links provided below, you never know when it will be your turn!
