P7 – Mean, Median, Mode and Range

This morning you learnt about other ways to use data. You are now able to work out the mean (average), mode (most frequent), median (middle value) and range of data. Andrew shared a rhyme his sister, Aimee taught him to help remember the rules (see video below).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvknMsRhGvg

Click on the image below from Sparklebox to remind you how to work out each method.

P4A – Perfect Silly Tubs (Build-a-Business)

p4a-logo

This week you will have received your order form from the P4A Build-a-Business Perfect Silly Tubs. The class have been working very hard on this project over the last few weeks in various teams. We have the management team, market research, finances, production (who will be very busy next week!), quality control and marketing. Each group has some very specific jobs to do each week to make the business a success.

Below is an example of the order form. So the business does not get overwhelmed with orders, we are limiting each child to 1 of each kind of tub (you don’t have to buy both, or any if you don’t want to!).  If you are wanting to order one of the customised tubs with a special name on, please enter the name as you would like it on the tub on the form. This will help the production team meet your requirements.

p4a-order-form

We would be really grateful if you could send in the exact money with your completed order form as the finances team will only be adding up the orders and the money during our technologies time on a Friday. Once we have the orders in and we start production, we will send the tubs home a few orders at a time, so there may be a short delay between getting your order form in and receiving your order. We are sure you won’t mind waiting for your Perfect Silly Tub!

Thank you very much for supporting the business and I hope you enjoy talking to your child about all the things they have been doing so far during our Build-a-Business project.

Turning the class into a parliament!

As part of our Europe topic, we have been learning about the European Union. We learned about democracy, elections and members of parliament. Today, we turned our classroom into a parliament! Each table played a parliamentary role and created one law to be pitched to the rest of the class. As a class we then voted on what law to pass. We really enjoyed discussing the laws and came up with some very interesting ideas! We hope you like our pictures!

Tomorrow night there is the Valentine’s disco – 6pm – 7pm for P1 -3.

Today we were learning about the number words from one to ten.

You could practise with this song or this game.

Storyteller

We all enjoyed our visit from storyteller Susan Wilson today. We heard different fairytales, which were set all around the world. We also got to speak to Susan’s special friend Onion when he popped out of the treasure chest. The children have been enjoying their Fairyland topic and are looking forward to the activities in the next few weeks.

Homework

Good evening

I hope you all had a lovely holiday weekend. There will be no spelling or maths homework this week. The children have been given a new reading book today. We read our books together in class this morning, and we will be hearing reading again tomorrow.

Miss Hamilton.

Wednesday 15th February

No homework this week. Will hand out homework bags next week.

Today we had a treat.  Susan Wilson,  a storyteller,sam_3158 sam_3157 sam_3155 sam_3154 sam_3153

came to visit with Onion.  Onion gave us clues to the stories that were told. We listened to Susan retell fairy tales from around the world, including Russia, Turkey and Germany. One story was called The Golden Goose, another was called The Mitten.

P6-7 Jewellery Making Masterclass

This afternoon we started our new Masterclass. P6-7 pupils suggested what activities could be done for Expressive Arts and a popular choice was jewellery making.

Learning Outcomes:

I have the opportunity to choose and explore an extended range of media and technologies to create images and objects, comparing and combining them for specific tasks. EXA 2-02a

I can develop and communicate my ideas, demonstrating imagination and presenting at least one possible solution to a design problem. EXA 2-06a

Design Considerations

  • Who are you designing this for? Who is the client?
  • The design should use a limited amount of colour, no more than four and be related to your theme.
  • The design should be easily worn

Are there any other design issues that you should consider as part of your brief?

P4a 15.2.16

Good Morning, Hope you all had a lovely long weekend. There will be no homework this week as it is a short week and we have collected in the Big Cat books to swap for next week. Please use this time to complete your library books as we will hopefully be going back next week.

Remember to keep practicing your times tables and looking at money in real life situations.

P2/1 W/b 15.2.17

Hi everyone

I hope you all enjoyed your long holiday weekend. I am looking forward to hearing what everyone got up to.

As this is a short week, there will be no formal homework issued for P1. This also applies to P2 apart from reading, where the same book from last week will be sent home.

Remember, you could still play some of the games that have been posted previously on the blog or have a go at either, Sumdog, Teach Your Monster or Skoolbo!

This week, P2/1 will be introduced to a very special challenge which has been set by Fire, our baby dragon from Fairyland. More information to follow soon!

As always, please let me know if there is anything I can help with.
