Reminder for P1E and P1M

A reminder to return the forms that were sent out in a white envelope last week by tomorrow (28th August) if you haven’t already done so.                                                                                                                             Also, a few of you are still to return the blue forms asking about activities and clubs that your children are involved in or you would like to see the school providing.

P1M Week 20.3.17

Lots happening this week – It’s Eco Week/Big Pedal and Red Nose Day on Friday.  Several new posts have been added over the weekend (including photos of the Fairyland open afternoon) so check them all out.                                                                                                                             See diaries regarding homework.  No reading books being sent home, however we will be doing reading in class.   In the bookbags, you will find a face painting permission slip. If this could be attended to and returned tomorrow  it would be much appreciated.                                                                                                                                           As  The Big Pedal is starting this week, we are encouraging the children to come to school on their scooters/ bikes. We have a daily slot timetabled for using the bikes and scooters in the playground. They can be left at the railings outside classroom door.  Children need to be responsible for their own padlocks if being used.

Today and tomorrow

Well, we have had a great afternoon!  Yesterday we read Jack and the Beanstalk and when we arrived in class this morning, we found  Sparky sleeping inside the castle beside a beanstalk attached to a castle in the clouds.  He must have been up  very late last night making it.                                                                                                                        There were two bags of cotton wool beside him so we thought this was a clue that he wanted us to have a go at making our own. Everybody was up for the challenge. We have still to finish them tomorrow.  I think Sparky will be delighted with the results!

Since we have a library visit in the morning, there is no need to send in a book for read and munch as the children can use the library book that they choose. Can still send in a snack though.

World Book Day

We had a great time today. First of all Caitlyn’s mum came in and read a story to us.  We then shared the different bits that we liked the best. After that we shared the books we brought in or took from the class library. Then we read ‘The Three Little Pigs’. Miss Mackay was delighted when we could also read some of the words with her.  Next we started to make the characters and setting. Tomorrow we will use the puppets and the setting to retell the story.  Just  before lunch we met up with our  P4 reading buddies and shared our books.

After lunch we continued to make the pigs, wolf and setting. Near the end of the day we had a whole school assembly to celebrate World Book Day.

Thank you all so much for coming to school in costumes , pyjamas and onesies and for being generous with donations and sponsor money.

Wednesday 15th February

No homework this week. Will hand out homework bags next week.

Today we had a treat.  Susan Wilson,  a storyteller,sam_3158 sam_3157 sam_3155 sam_3154 sam_3153

came to visit with Onion.  Onion gave us clues to the stories that were told. We listened to Susan retell fairy tales from around the world, including Russia, Turkey and Germany. One story was called The Golden Goose, another was called The Mitten.

Week beginning 23rd January

  • reading
  •  word wall
  •  new sound – ie  ( as in tie)
  •   blending book ‘e’ words.  If your child finds this challenging,  split the list up and try different ones on different nights.  If your child is blending well, then an alternative would be to see if they can think of other CVC words with ‘e’ in the middle.
  • Maths will be issued on Tuesday, return by Friday please. -highlighted on Maths homework sheet
  • On Wednesday your child will be entertaining people who have been invited to the Community Café in school. We have been learning Coulter’s Candy and Three Craws.
  • Keep up the good work learning the poems. The children have  been practising saying them in front of their classmates and  have been very good at helping each other when someone gets stuck.  We will be choosing a class winner on Wednesday to represent the class  at our Scottish assembly.

Nativity photos and tomorrow

Thought you would enjoy seeing extra photos I took this morning. The children were all fantastic and I’m very proud of them all!

Tomorrow: I spoke to the children todayaimg_2927 img_2928and since we have our party in the afternoon, we are inviting the P7s to join us with Read and Munch in the morning. If your child has a Christmas book, s/he could bring it in to share with a P7.

P1M :InformationWeek beginning 12.12.16

Sorry, there are no diaries in bookbags tonight . Will put in tomorrow.

Homework this week

Monday – new sound  j

Tuesday : sound and word wall

Wednesday : sound and word wall

Thursday : sound and word wall (School Christmas Lunch today)

Friday is a non-uniform day. The children can come wearing a Christmas jumper/Christmas t-shirt.  It would be great if you could send in a small donation for Save the Children.  Our P1 party is in the afternoon.  It is up to you whether you want to take your child home at lunch time to change or just send party stuff in a clearly labelled bag.

Reading homework for P1M

As the children don’t have any reading books this week we decided to send them home each night with their own story written and illustrated by themselves. (Basically it’s a sentence using some of the common words from their word wall). Please encourage them to attempt to read their sentence (story) using fingers under the words approach.

Please return the booklet tomorrow so we can write another story.

Tomorrow : Bookbug Day with Buddies

Really excited about our Bookbug Day with our buddies tomorrow!  We will do ‘Read and Munch’ first thing in the morning with our buddies.  Thought it would be a great idea to read our library books with our buddies before returning them on our visit at 11.15.

Also, a wee reminder to bring in favourite teddy and more junk if you have it for our Bear on a Chair activity that we will be doing in the afternoon.

Can’t wait…..one sleep to go!

Week beginning 14th November

Hi Everyone,

Homework this week : Maths activity (any night)

New sounds : u and l

2 Books : Please ensure books are back  in homework bags on the Tuesday evening, ready to swap over on the Wednesday. If your child forgets to put the book in, it means that another child will go without reading for a night as we don’t have extra copies to send home.

Keep the junk coming in!  We need it for building a chair for their teddies (an activity they will be doing with their buddies on Friday).

We will be visiting the library again this Friday, at 11.15am.  Please ensure that the book your child took out last week is back in school by then so we can return it.  Not everyone has chosen to take it home so it may be in their school tray, so don’t panic if you haven’t seen it.

Is it possible for 1 extra parent or gran/grandpa to be available at 11 o’clock to join us on our trip to the library? If so, put a wee note in the diary. We would be back by 12.15 at the very latest.

Look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday for parents’ appointments.

Miss Mackay

Topics

By the end of this week, all the children will have completed their All About Me posters.  We have left a space for a family photo. Could you please send one in (size roughly about 6 x 4in) to put on the poster. Will blu tac on, not use glue.  You will get it back at the end of the term.  Over the next few weeks the children will have the opportunity to talk to the class about themselves and their posters.

Last week we introduced our new topic Elmer.  We read and discussed the first Elmer book and created our own Elmer collage using tissue paper.  If you have any Elmer books at home that you would be interested in sharing with the class, please send them in ( with your child’s name inside).

Week Beginning Monday 5th September

Hello Everyone,                                                                                                              We had fun last week planting our pumpkin plants with our buddies.  They are in the raised beds near the secret garden in the middle playground if you wish to have a look. We had extra plants for children who didn’t have a plant. The class will visit them regularly to watch them grow and hopefully we will have many to harvest.  Fingers crossed!

We started the first of our Bounce Back lessons about honesty. We watched a Pinocchio video, discussed the importance of telling the truth and ended up with a dance and a sing-a-long!   See the link below to take you to the Pinocchio song.

Homework this week                                                                                              New sounds :   t and p.  Your child should not be saying “ti” or “pi”. Practise the sound/ song/action and discuss things beginning with each sound. (Keep doing the same with s and a.)

Reading book. Use the extended stories to help discuss the book.  We will swap the books on Wednesday, so please ensure the book goes back into the bag after reading on Tuesday. If you forget, this could mean that there are not enough copies for the swap.

3 New Words : a and the  are in the bag with the characters.  One activity you could do, say e.g.  “Kipper and Floppy” and get your child to find the words and lay them out in that order, then point to each one as s/he repeats the phrase.

Choose 1 maths activity.

READ AND MUNCH

For Parents who missed the information evening.

Every Friday afternoon we will  have what we call Read and Munch.  Your child can bring in a healthy snack and a favourite book from home or take one from the class library and read it.  The children have an opportunity to socialise and share their stories.

P1M Homework

Match Floppy , Mum and Dad with their names.  Practise the others as well if your child is still unsure.
