Primary 5

Class Teacher:  Mrs Smith

We have made a fantastic start to Primary 5 already!  Everyone has contributed to making our Class Charter which promises to help our class run smoothly this year and strengthen our class ethos.

Our homework is now underway and lots of us have already earned extra house points for doing particularly well with some tasks.  Please remember to check homework diaries every evening as this is where important notes will be recorded.

This term, our Social Studies topic is all about the Rainforest.  We are very excited about this and have already created a 3D mindmap, looked at Google Earth, a selection of great topic books and some fantastic websites.

Please remember our indoor PE is on a Tuesday and our outdoor PE is on a Thursday.

Reading – All children will have an Accelerated Reader which will be read in class. At least 15-20 minutes should be spent reading these books at home each evening.

Maths – Children will be issued a piece of maths homework relating to work they have been doing in class each week. This will be issued on Friday, to be completed by the following Thursday.

Spelling – Spelling words will be issued on a Friday to be completed throughout the following week.

Monday – Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check each word once in jotters.

Tuesday – Write 3 new words with the spelling rule/sound of the week.

Wednesday – Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check each word again, then write 3 interesting sentences using the words which are starred in jotters.

Thursday – Active Spelling activity and revise words for Friday’s spelling test.

We will keep you updated on any additional homework tasks throughout the year e.g. topic/research tasks.

Thank you for your support with homework.

As your child progresses with their reading you may wish to try some of the strategies to make reading even more fun and interesting.
