Class Teacher: Mrs Cassells
We have had a busy term so far. Everyone enjoyed our Scottish poem ‘Lament to a Lost Dinner Ticket’. We have been learning lots about the Vikings and will be completing lots of challenges. On Monday 13th March we be visiting Vikingar in Largs.
The children have asked for more maths homework so some weeks we will be doing less spelling homework and more maths.
In class we have completed a class novel ‘The Magic Finger’ and our next novel is ‘The Killer Cat’ by Anne Fine. It is important to remember to read every night and try to read as many books as we can for the First Ministers’ Reading Challenge. In the class we have a new library corner with lots of brand new books.
Reading homework is issued on a Friday. All children will have an Accelerated Reader which will be read in class. Some time should be spent reading these books at home each week. Group reader/class novel – specific pages will be recorded in diaries to be read at home and discussed with your child. At times, follow-up Book Detective roles will also be given as homework.
Maths – Children will be issued a piece of maths homework relating to work they have been doing in class each week. This will be issued on Friday, to be completed by the following Thursday.
Spelling – Spelling words will be issued on a Friday to be completed throughout the following week.
Monday – Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check each word once in jotters.
Tuesday – Write 3 interesting sentences for the words with stars beside them.
Wednesday – Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check each word again, then think of 3 new words with the same spelling rule and write them in jotters.
Thursday – Active Spelling drill and revise words for Friday’s spelling test.
We will keep you updated on any additional homework tasks throughout the year e.g. topic/research tasks.
Thank you for your support with homework.
As your child progresses with their reading you may wish to try some of the strategies to make reading even more fun and interesting.
