Science & Technology

Science plays a vital role in everyday life as we use its applications at home, at work and in leisure. The application of science is central to our economic future and our health and wellbeing as individuals and as a society. Through learning in science, pupils gain an interest in and understanding of the world around them.

Technology, defined as the application of knowledge and skills to extend human capabilities and to help to satisfy human needs and wants, has a profound affect on society. Scotland needs people to be aware of the impact of technologies on society, now and in the future. Learning in technologies provides a strong foundation for the development of skills and knowledge that will be essential in Scotland’s future.

Scotland has a long tradition of scientific discovery and excellence in innovation and technological advancement. Through learning in science and technologies, pupils will develop the interests, skills and abilities that will help them to continue to contribute to this long standing impact of Scottish society.

At Bargarran, we provide learning in Science & Technologies across a range of topics. Learning in Science & Technologies is often linked to other areas of the curriculum. We are currently working on our approach to Science & Technologies teaching, aiming to teach concepts from both subjects together in a real life context, providing pupils with the opportunity to take part in STEM activities to apply their learning.

Digital technologies are an integral component of teaching and learning across the curriculum. Pupils at Bargarran are given regular opportunities to use iPads, laptops and chromebooks to support and enhance their learning and to develop confidence with the use of ICT.
