Here are some of the exciting things we will be learning this term.

Literacy

Reading

Children will continue to read books in our book banded range. Most children will have one book each week. Books may be fiction or non fiction. Children will continue to be assessed  to ensure they are reading at the correct level.

Writing

This term we will  continue with our Talk for Writing approach. we are currently completing a discussion piece through the Talk for Writing process for the first time. Then we will be using a journey story to build upon our learning in description writing and apply it with new strategies to settings.  This will be followed by an non fiction text with a focus on information.  We will continue  to use model texts for pupils to learn the structure and grammar content through recital, drama and story maps before innovating the model texts to write their own pieces.

Phonics, Spelling, & Grammar – We will continue to learn new spelling patterns and sounds through the Jolly Spelling programme.  Children will also complete spelling tasks in class.  Grammar concepts  will be taught through our writing,  Jolly Grammar resource where appropriate with additional  active resources to support this learning.

Listening & Talking –We are given regular opportunities across the curriculum and in play opportunities to engage in class and group discussions, practising our ability to make contributions, listen to others and build on their ideas. Children will also respond to reading activities by taking notes and using these to create fact files etc. Our class love a good debate and will continue to use the language learned through this. We will discuss the idea of presenting a very short talk on a topic of their choice to the class this term.

Numeracy

This term we will begin with learning about money.  we will identify and count coins and notes. Use correct coins and notes to pay and calculate the change from different amounts. this learning will be reinforce through a toy shop role play.  Please encourage your child to use money at home and if possible at the local shops.

We will follow on with learning time, revising o’clock and half past then moving on to quarter past. Learning will focus on both analogue and digital time.

A concrete, pictorial, abstract methodology is used for Numeracy to support understanding.  SEAL maths is taught alongside relevant concepts to reinforce them.

Health & Wellbeing

PATHS will continue with the P3 programme focusing on feelings, problem solving and friendship.  We will continue with Child of the Week and come home with a list of compliments from other members of the class.

In PE we will cover Ball games and sports day practise.

RSHP will be covered this term. A message will go out each week before lessons to allow you time to have a look at the lessons should you wish.  We will also be learning about medicines.

Broad General Education

We are learning about the Sun, Earth and Moon in Science and Technology.  A few children had questions about stars therefore, we will learn a little about other stars too.

Novel Study

The class have chosen The Magic Faraway Tree: the Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton as our class novel.  The learning from this will be responsive (led by the children) There will be some focus on vocabulary, grammar and comprehension included. We will use the book as stimulus to create a model fitting in with Mrs McGhee teaching materials.

French/BSL

We will continue with some learning of the french language however our focus this term will be on British Sign language. Pupils have already learned some weather signs and how to say like and don’t like. We will move on to simple greetings and the BSL alphabet.

NCC
