This year our teacher is Miss Potter.
Our P.E. days are Wednesday afternoon and a Friday morning. Please ensure your child does not wear any jewellery on P.E days.
Mr Martindale will cover the class on a Wednesday midday while Miss Potter plans lots of fun activities for the class.
Class Dojo
Please join our class Dojo to keep up to date with class news, photos and more! You can use Dojo to view the points your child has been given and to view our class Dojo story.
P2 Homework
During our first term which will take us to Christmas, the children will be introduced to 1 new spelling sound each week. A homework activity to consolidate learning of each sound will be sent home in the red folder.
Reading books will also be sent home in the red folders (usually 2).
A Maths Wall with a range of active activities will also be sent home termly.
Red folders will be sent home on a Monday and should be left in school on Thursday.
Class Leadership Role
Throughout the year we will take on various job roles to keep our classroom an organised and tidy environment. Jobs will be rotated on a Monday.
Reminder
Please ensure that all items that your child brings to school are clearly marked with their name. This is very helpful if items get misplaced! There is a large lost property box at the school office should you ever wish to check for items that have been missing for more than a few days. We will do our best to send all items home with your child each day!
Here are some of the exciting things we will be learning this term…
We will be reinforcing all the sounds which have been introduced through play, activities and some written tasks. We will enjoy a class story each day and discuss our Likes and Dislikes, Puzzles and Connections. We will explore rhymes and rhyming words. Rhyming is a very important pre-reading skill and an easy one to develop at home through sharing rhymes, stories, poems and silly rhymes!
Lots of listening and talking skills will be developed during the activities above.
We will continue Talk for Writing. We will start with the story based on The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Children will be encouraged to create their own story maps and add writing to them. There will be resources put out in the classroom linked to the current story to spark enthusiasm and imagination. This hopefully sparks some free writing too. Primary 2 will also continue to revise their letter formation as well as starting more formal handwriting in a lined jotter.
We will be exploring months of the year through our class calendar, birthdays and other events. Having a calendar on display at home and discussing events with the children will help with this concept.
We will explore numbers to 100 and continue to practise number formation. Counting, naming, ordinal counting, counting forwards and backwards (starting and stopping at random numbers) clapping and ordering.
We will recognise patterns in numbers, shapes and in our environment.
We will use the terms ‘more’ and ‘less’ and be able to estimate amounts.
Lots of Numeracy and Maths skills will be developed through play.
Each week we have a PATHS lesson. Our puppet friends; Twiggle, Henrietta, Daphne and Duke help us with emotional understanding, self-control, social problem-solving, relationships and self-esteem. Each week we will have a special Child of the Week! They will receive compliments from their peers. This will be shared with you on the Class Dojo.
Broad General Education
We will complete a school Global Goals Topic. P1 and P2 children have been given the area of ‘Life on Land’ to investigate. We will learn all about ways to help our environment and keep our community clean.
Other topics this term will be chosen by the children, following their interests and through discussions.
Play
Play is a very important part of how children learn and our environment promotes challenge and enjoyment and personalisation and choice through opportunities to explore different activities, materials and contexts. Opportunities for the children to be imaginative and creative both indoor and outdoor are provided daily.
Here are some of the many skills being developed during play.
