We were delighted to be accredited as a Reading School in June 2022.
Here are a few of the things we do at Bargarran to allow us to proudly call ourselves a Reading School.
- We have a Reading Pupil Parliament. The group continue to meet regularly to discuss ideas to promote and continue the implementation of Reading across the school.
- Learners continue to act as reading role models by talking about books they’ve read at assemblies. Using book recommendations and bookmarks for their peers.
- Staff reading role models by displaying signs in class to show what they are reading. Giving opportunities to let learners see them read.
- School environment– each class has an appealing reading areas, we provide learners with cushions/ beanbags allowing them to be comfortable when reading for pleasure. We have attractive reading displays featured around the school.
- Erskine Library – classes have opportunities to visit their local library
- Bargarran Bookworm – P4-7 pupils are always working hard to win one of our fantastic Bargarran Bookworm awards based on their accelerated reading word count. We recently had our first millionaire word winner!
