Learning in Health & Wellbeing ensures that children and young people develop the knowledge, understanding, skills, capabilities and attributes which they need for mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing now and in the future. Learning through Health & Wellbeing enables pupils to:

- experience challenge and enjoyment
- experience positive aspects of healthy living and activity for themselves
- apply their mental, emotional, social, and physical skills to pursue a healthy lifestyle
- make a successful move to the next stage of education or work
- establish a pattern of health and wellbeing which will be sustained into adult life
The health and wellbeing curriculum explores the following themes:
- Mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing
- Planning for choices and changes
- Physical education, physical activity and sport

At Bargarran Primary School, learning in Health & Wellbeing is covered in the classroom, at assemblies, through our nurturing school ethos and in extra curricular activities. We use a wide range of activities and resources to cover the themes above and work in partnership with other agencies to ensure pupil’s health and wellbeing is at the heart of teaching practice.
At Bargarran Primary, we are a PATHS school. The PATHS programme is used on a weekly basis in classes. Pupils follow a series of lessons, aimed at their stage of the school, which aims to facilitate the development of self control, emotional awareness and interpersonal problem solving skills.
Active Schools
Our active schools co-ordinator is Robert Campbell. We work closely with Active Schools to deliver a range of experiences for our pupils, including extra curricular clubs.
RNRA
We have been awarded with a Jade Award from the Renfrewshire Nurturing Relationships Approach (RNRA). We are currently working towards our Ruby award. RNRA is an approach to developing nurturing relationships through the school, recognising that nurturing relationships are one of the key ways to support the needs of children and young people. We are also integrating the use of NVR (Non-Violent Resistance) approach to our RNRA work.
