Primary 6

Welcome to P6

This year our teachers are Mrs McGlinchey (Monday-Wednesday) and Miss McManus (Thursday and Friday)

Our P.E. days are Tuesday – in the studio and Friday – in the gym hall.

We will be covering Fitness and Hockey for the first term.  We may take some of our PE lessons outdoors to the pitch or playground area some weeks.

On this day, please remember to come to school wearing our outdoor learning uniform – Grey/black jogging trousers or leggings, white polo shirt, red sweatshirt/jumper/cardigan, appropriate outdoor shoes and jacket. Please remember to come prepared for all weathers!

Class Dojo

Please join our class dojo to keep up to date with class news, photos and more! You can use dojo to view the points your child has been given and to view our class dojo story.

Homework

Homework will be issued and submitted via class dojo. Homework will be issued at the start of the week and should be completed by the end of the week. Homework diaries have log in details for various programmes to support learning.

It is at your discretion if you wish to complete homework and submissions will no longer be recorded.  Any time spent on learning at home is greatly appreciated!

Reminder

Please ensure that all items that your child brings to school are clearly marked with their name. This is very helpful if items get misplaced!

Here are some of the things we will be learning this term…

Numeracy:

We will be covering times tables, number and number processes, estimating and rounding and continuing with our number talks and Beat That maths.  TTRS will be available again.

Literacy:

We will be covering spelling, grammar through our Talk 4 Write lessons and some handwriting. We will have the opportunity to access Accelerated Reading for our homework and our class has some new library books, with the children’s own reading interests in mind, available for weekly library and reading from enjoyment use.  We will create opportunities for children to work in small groups to further develop their talking and listening skills.

BGE:

We will also have opportunities for other learning areas including Music, French, Drama, Global Goals – link with Primary 7 and Art.

Health and Wellbeing:  Our Emotional and Physical Wellbeing

Our focus at the beginning of our year is setting our Class Charter with our school rules and values for the ethos of our classroom.  We will continue on our journey with PATHs and mindfulness, with an access to Headspace for mindfulness stories and exercises. Along side our weekly PE lessons we will continue our weekly walk and many outdoor learning opportunities to keep our learning active and varied.
