Winter Weather Activities

Due to the school closures throughout North Lanarkshire today, if you are looking for some activities to keep your children busy, you could engage them in the following activities:

Literacy Activities

  • On Thursday of this week, it is World Book Day.  Their website has some great activities the children can engage in.  Click on the link below to access the resources.     http://www.worldbookday.com/resources
  • Cosy up on the couch and read your favourite book.
  • Build a snowman then think/write about how you made it.
  • Watch the Snowman.  Write about ‘The Day Your Snowman Came to Life’.
  • Go Sledging.  Create a poster about how to stay safe when sledging.
  • Doorway Online – offers games for children in Primary 1 – 3              http://www.doorwayonline.org.uk/literacy
  • Phonics Games – this website offers games where children have to practise their blending and reading skills of words with the sounds and phonemes they have been learning.      https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/ChildrensMenu.htm
  • Phonics resources – Alphablocks is a great series which promotes the use of sounds and phonemes in a fun way.   https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/shows/alphablocks

Numeracy Activities

The Topmarks Website offers a range of maths games related to the topics the children have been covering in class.

School Closure

Due to forecast worsening weather, schools will close to pupils from 1.00 pm today. We are working with contractors to bring forward scheduled school transport but some transport may arrive after 1.00 pm. Staff will remain with pupils until collected.

We seem to be experiencing problems with the school phones. If you need to contact the school urgently please email ht@st-michaels.n-lanark.sch.uk

After School Clubs

We are delighted to offer a  number of After School Clubs run by some of the teaching staff and local instructors.  These will take place Monday-Thursday, between  3pm – 4pm.

These will start from week beginning 22nd January until week beginning 19th March.  If you wish   to be considered for any of these clubs, please reply to the email, selecting the club of your choice by clicking on the relevant link.

Please note that club numbers have to be restricted and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis, you will receive notification if your child has a place.  There is a cost of 50p per week for the clubs attended.

Primary 6 Transition

As part of the transition programme to St. Maurice’s High School, Primary 6 are invited along to St. Maurice’s High School to take part in a technology and numeracy workshop.  Your child will attend this event on Thursday 18th and Thursday 25th January.

On both days the children will leave St. Michael’s at 11am and will be transported to

St. Maurice’s by bus.  They will return to St. Michael’s at approximately 1pm.

Please ensure your child brings with them a packed lunch.  Any child entitled to a free school meal will be provided with a packed lunch.

Unless you notify us in writing we will assume that permission is granted for your child to attend this event.  An emergency contact form will be issued before the event which must be completed and returned to the school.
