Christmas at Nursery
The boys and girls have had a busy and fun filled week at nursery. They have been very busy looking through the catalogues, then using the scissors and glue to make wish lists to send off to Santa, we are now patiently waiting on our replies 🙂 They have been creative in the messy area, using scissors, glitter and glue to make snowflakes and Christmas baubles. All the boys and girls have been excited to come to nursery everyday to see what ‘Snowflake’ our Elf has been up to, she has been playing with our toys, wrapping our christmas tree in toilet roll and eating our sweeties for our party. The boys and girls have been very kind and brought cards into nursery for their friends, they got to post them in our postbox and sort them out into groups, putting the nursery stamp on them. On Friday morning the boys and girls were very lucky and got to visit Rosehall Care Home, they sang some lovely Scottish and Christmas songs to the residents, they then gave us a treat of chocolate and juice.
Christmas in the Nursery.
The boys and girls in the nursery have begun to learn all about Christmas. The children have been introduced to the story of Jesus through traditional stories and practising the nativity play (which all the children are fantastic at!). This week the children have decorated the Christmas tree, made lists for Santa, made their own wrapping paper and even decorated paper plates to make Christmas baubles. The boys and girls are beginning to get really excited for Santa coming and are enjoying coming in to find out what ‘Snowflake the Elf’ has been up to each day.
When Santa sent ‘Snowflake’ to Stane Nursery, ‘Snowflake’ had to travel from the North Pole. ‘Snowflake’ is a magical Elf, when we are in our houses, ‘Snowflake’ flies back to the North Pole each night to report back to Santa. Santa Claus even sent back our Golden Bears! Each day, Golden Bear will go home with a boy or girl who has been following the Golden Rules.
Heuristic Play and Physical Exercise in the nursery.
The children have been exploring Heuristic Play in the nursery. They have been building on their concentration skills, hand eye co-ordination and problem solving skills using every day materials. Heuristic play is set in a calm environment and the children helped set rules to keep themselves and others safe. Â There is no right or wrong way to use the materials the children just have fun finding out the different ways to use them.
We have also been learning about physical activity through ‘Moursercise’, where we are all keeping fit by doing exercises to music with some of their favourite Disney characters. The children and adults are having so much fun with this!
The Good Samaritans
The boys and girls have been learning the story of ‘The Good Samaritan’, they are showing their understanding of the story through various play and learning experiences. They have been learning about caring for others, sharing and being kind. The parents have been very kind in donating items for ‘The Shoe Box Appeal’ which the children helped pack into boxes and send to other children who weren’t as fortunate as the boys and girls at Stane Nursery Class.

Natural Disasters
The children in Primary 5/6 and Primary 6/7 have been extremely busy learning about natural disasters. They have investigated different natural disasters, studied tsunamis in more depth, build a model tsunami and tested it! Currently we are investigating volcanoes – imagine the fun with this! As part of this learning the children have investigated chemical reactions, looking at different solutions and how they clean a coin.
Autumn Learning in the Nursery
Recently the boys and girls had been learning about Autumn. The children learned that Autumn was when all the leaves would fall off the trees along with, twigs and chestnuts!
The boys and girls got all suited up in waterproofs and wellies to go on an Autumn walk. We found brown, red and green leaves, along with chestnuts and twigs! The children enjoyed throwing the leaves up and crunching through all the piles of fallen leaves.
Guy Fawkes Day fun in the Nursery
The children in the nursery have all been very excited today about seeing fireworks tonight. The children all had a discussion about where they were going or what colours might light up the sky tonight and of course they discussed how to stay safe tonight with the fireworks; staying wrapped up, having gloves on, keeping sparklers away from their face and staying far away from the firework displays!
With all the excitement about fireworks, the children had the chance to create their very own firework pictures. The children used glitter paint and a variety of utensils to replicate the fireworks exploding in the sky. The boys and girls also created their own rockets using collage and discussed what sounds the rockets would make. The children had the opportunity to participate in a science experiment. Using a plate of milk, dropping in 3 different colours of food colouring and holding a straw in the middle with a little bit of washing up liquid on the end of it, created the illusion of fireworks on a plate.
Nursery Halloween Fun
The Nursery boys and girls had lots of fun taking part in various Halloween themed activities. They had fun helping scoop out the inside of a pumpkin and then they carved it. The children dressed up as witches and created their own spells. Â On Friday the children came to Nursery in their Halloween costumes, where they had lots of fun making cakes, playing games and dancing, followed with a yummy snack. Some family and friends then came to Nursery to hear the children sing their Halloween songs.
