Final science assembly
This afternoon we had a final assembly so that each class and the nursery could share their learning.
Each class has undertaken a range of different scientific investigations and from the feedback all of the children had great fun learning about different aspects of science.
BT Workshop
Primary 5,6,7 had a visit this morning from BT as part of their science week. To start the session they were told about the importance of science in the development of telecommunications. The children learned about three important innovations that have developed modern communications – Telegraph, Telephone and Radio.
The children were split into three groups
- Â Â Â Network model – complete with faults that the children had to identify to fix.
-
Looking at equipment that a telephone engineer would wear and use.
-
Visiting the van – finding out how the van is kitted out and all the equipment that it contains.
Parachute Drop
Primary 5,6 have been looking at air resistance and, by making model parachutes, were able to determine the larger the surface area the more air resistance and the slower the parachute will drop. We had great fun testing them outside at the amphitheatre!

Science Week
The girls from Primary 5/6 and 6/7 have enjoyed a visit from Lauren today. Â She is a science ambassador who talked about the importance of encouraging girls to study science and a variety of different careers that this can lead to including different areas of Engineering. As a challenge the girls had to build the highest structure that they could.
