Congratulations to Rachael Brogan (S6) who was selected to represent Central Scotland in the Youth Parliament debate held in the House of Commons on Friday 13th November. Rachael is MSYP for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth and is also a Member of the Youth Parliament (UK wide)

Rachael was selected from the 14 Scottish MYP’s and delivered a speech on ‘The Relevance of the Magna Carta today’. Her speech was broadcast live on BBC Parliament.

What a fantastic achievement for Rachael!

Caitlin loses her hair for charity!

Caitlin Currie (S5) got 22 inches cut from her hair on the 7th of November and donated it to ‘The Little Princess Trust’ which is an organisation that provides wigs for children with Cancer.

She also raised a phenomenal £694 which she donated to St. Andrew’s Hospice in memory of her Grandad.

Well done Caitlin!

Developing the Young Workforce

On Thursday 19th November, we were delighted to host our business partner CMS Window Systems when they met with our learners to discuss exciting possibilities within their company.

S4 pupils met Anna West and four apprentices who have become part of the company and its training scheme.

As part of our developing the young workforce strategy, 30 S4 pupils were given the opportunity to hear about the company’s apprenticeship programme which can be a platform for a promising career. We look forward to strengthening our partnership with CMS over the coming months.

Live N Learn Workshops for S5

Live N Learn

90 S5 pupils who are studying 3 or more highers participated in a ‘Mindset for Exams’ workshop on Wednesday 18 November.

The pupils engaged in inspirational, motivational workshops on study tools, revision techniques, time management, attitude and stress.

Feedback from pupils was incredibly positive and our young people clearly enjoyed their day.

Speaker at Labour Conference

Adam Ferguson S6, entered into the “My Scotland Competition” where he wrote about a policy he wanted a political party to adopt. He attended a workshop with Scottish Labour Leader Kezia Dugdale and members of the Press.

Due to his outstanding performance, he was then asked to speak at The Scottish Labour Conference in Perth.

Adam has also won a week’s work experience with the Times and Thomsons’ Solicitors. This is a fantastic achievement and opportunity for Adam!

Handball Success

Well done to our S2 and S4-6 Girls’ Handball Teams who competed in a tournament on Friday 30 October. Both teams won every single game in their league with fantastic performances all round!

The S2 team are: Sara Blake, Emily Burns, Kimberley Gallacher, Carmina Gray, Lucile Govan, Karis Healy, Rebecca Johnston, Rebecca McPhee and Ellie Rennie.

The S4-6 team are: Pamela Arnachellum, Ciara Bonner, Eilidh Brown, Chloe Chan, Clare Croal, Eilidh MacLennan, Katie McGowan, Emily McMahon, Hannah O’Brien and Alannah Thomas.

Ceilidh Group

Congratulations to our fantastic Ceilidh group who have been invited to perform at the SQA Star Awards on Friday 20 November. The group had to audition twice, and were in competition with schools and colleges from across Scotland.

The pupils are : Lewis Brown, Grace Carey, James Craig, Julie Hamilton, Adrian Lynch, Kathryn McGillion, Courteney Milne, Rachel Reilly, Aileen Stewart and Rebecca Stewart. This is a great achievement and we wish them every success on the night!

S1 Halloween Party

There were spooky goings on when S1 enjoyed a Halloween party on Friday 30 October!

S6 pupils, along with members of the S4 Personal Development class helped with the organisation and running of the event. Around £200 was raised for school funds.

There were three prize winners – Owen McQuillan, Shannen Lofnes and Leah Rennie.
