Social Subjects Department

Brief summary of the aims of the department: Social Subjects aims to provide stimulating and relevant learning experiences for learners by developing a sense of identity within the world both past and present. Learners will experience a range of teaching methods designed to enhance the learning experience and provide challenge. We aim to develop skills that can be used both in learning, life and work such as debate, discussion, critical thinking and working cooperatively.

BGE topics covered: S1:

  • All pupils begin with integrated course on China- approx. 6 weeks. They will then work on rotation around the subjects.
  • Geography- Map skills, Brazil (10 WEEKS)
  • History- Vikings, Native Americans (10 WEEKS)
  • Modern Studies- Children’s Rights (10 WEEKS)

 

S2: (3 X 12 WEEK BLOCKS)

  • Geography- Earth Forces, Environmental Apprentice
  • History- Wars of Independence, JFK
  • Modern Studies- Democracy, International Issues

S3:

  • Geography- Glaciation, Coasts, Weather
  • History- Causes of WW1
  • Modern Studies- Politics and Human Rights
