Pensioners’ Christmas Lunch

Pensioners’ Christmas Lunch

On Tuesday 20 December the students of Our Lady’s hosted a party for 50 elderly parishioners from our local parishes as well as the Church of Scotland and St Mary’s Episcopalian Church. The VIP guests were treated to a Christmas dinner and a Nativity play.

Thanks go to S6 Personal Development classes for preparing the hall, Mrs Dunbar and the S1 pupils for their hard work in preparing the Nativity and to the Dining staff for the beautiful lunch. A wonderful time was had by all!

S5/6 Christmas Ceilidh

S5/6 Christmas Ceilidh

S5/6 pupils danced the night away on Wednesday 21 December at their Christmas Ceilidh. On arrival they walked along a red carpet to the sound of bagpipes and then enjoyed a whole evening with a live ceilidh band.

Many thanks to Ms Sharkey and her Ceilidh Committee who organised the whole event and also thanks to Mrs Varty from the Home Economics department who provided a wonderful buffet.

As you can see from the photographs, the pupils had a fantastic time!

S1 Cake Decorating Club

S1 Cake Decorating Club

After the recent success of this year’s Great British Bake Off, Our Lady’s High School budding bakers showed off their skills during a six week S1 lunch club.

This was a great success and helped pupils to develop their skills in practical cake craft, independent and collaborative learning. Through persevering and showing their resilience all pupils created festive cakes of excellent quality that were taken home as a centrepiece for the Christmas dinner table.

On Monday 19 December a group of S1-3 singers visited Rannoch Lodge Care Home to entertain the residents with carol singing. Numeracy Week

Numeracy Week

Last week was all about Numeracy Across Learning in Our Lady’s with a range of activities taking place across the school. As well as highlighting the Numeracy in lessons across subject areas, there were quizzes, competitions and year group events.

S3 ‘Numeracy for Work’ Event – S3 pupils had the opportunity to learn first hand about the work experiences and numeracy content of a wide range of occupations, courtesy of a host of guests – everything from musicians to surgeons! We are so grateful to everyone who came along for giving up their time – the S3 pupils had an amazing, busy, informative afternoon and our guests were blown away by the behaviour, enthusiasm and attitude of our pupils.

S1 ‘Spotlight on Numeracy’ Event – a fun and informative afternoon focussing on ‘Numeracy for Learning’. The S1 pupils participated wholeheartedly! Thanks to the S3 pupils who took charge of the smooth running of the event, and all the staff, teaching and non-teaching, who helped out. We even had Santa turn up (well Christmas isn’t that far away!).

We haven’t forgotten about S2! They will take part in our S2 ‘House Games Olympiad‘, a ‘Numeracy for Life’ event, later this year.
