Subject Champions Event

Subject Champions Event

To prepare for the forthcoming S2 BGE Subject Choice exercise all S2 pupils participated in a Subject Champions Event on 23 February.

This involved all pupils researching information about each subject within the different curricular areas. S6 pupils represented each department, preparing excellent displays and practical activities showcasing employability skills and future career paths linked to each subject. They were able to answer questions from our S2 pupils and provided them with a fantastic taster for each subject.

S6 pupils worked very hard in their personal development time to prepare and their hard work and preparation ensured the smooth running of the event, which was also presented to parents at the S2 Parents’ Information Evening. S2 pupils will continue to be supported in Health and Wellbeing to ensure that they are making very well informed course choices!

S1 Geography classes recently enjoyed a visit from Zoolab to supplement their work on the Amazon Rainforest. Owen, from Zoolab, brought in lots of reptiles for the pupils to see including a tarantula, snake and a frog!

The pupils have been learning all about animals in the Amazon Rainforest and everyone really enjoyed seeing them in real life!

S5 Study Weekend

S5 Study Weekend

48 S5 pupils who are studying 4 or 5 highers attended a very worthwhile study weekend at New Lanark Youth Hostel. They participated in subject tutorials for English, maths, social subjects, biology, chemistry, PE and Spanish to help prepare them for the SQA exams in May.

We also had a group quiz on Saturday night ably run by our resident quiz master Mr Dickson. The teachers team were the overall winners!

Pupils evaluations of the weekend included comments like: “enjoyed working in smaller groups” and “beneficial to have one to one time with teachers”

Scottish Studies Burns Lunch

Scottish Studies Burns Lunch

On Wednesday 31 January at lunchtime, the S3 Scottish Studies pupils prepared a ‘Burns Lunch’ for a small number of staff as part of their hospitality unit.

With the help of Mrs. Burke, Mrs. Varty and Mr. Maxwell, the pupils selected one member of staff each, created and handed out invitations, organised the event, and even had a hand in the preparation of the excellent food. The pupils created a seating plan, name plates and on the day served the food, but not until they had delivered an excellent address to the haggis.

It was a fantastic event which epitomised the principles of nurture and wellbeing, as pupils and staff gathered together to eat and converse.

Well done to all pupils involved; Sean Allen, Aiden Fox, Emma Foy, Ryan McLaughlin, Owen McQuillan, William McShannon, James McWilliams, Chloe Paterson and Reece Souch.
