P7 pupils and their families came along to Our Lady’s on Thursday 12 September for a Welcome Mass celebrated by Fr. McKay, Fr. John Campbell and Fr. O’Brien.

Feast Day Celebrations

Feast Day Celebrations

Thank you to Fr. McKay, Fr. John Campbell and Fr. Kenny Campbell for celebrating our Feast Day Mass on Friday 6 September. This was a wonderful celebration for our school community. Thanks also to the invited guests who came along to join in our celebration.

Earlier in the week Fr. McKay celebrated Mass for S3 and S5 on Monday 2 September, S2 and S4 on Tuesday 3 September and a beautiful Mass for staff after school on Wednesday 4 September. A very fitting way to celebrate Our Lady’s Week.

S1 Author Visit

On Monday 9 September, we had a visit from Claire McFall, author of Black Cairn Point, Bombmaker, Ferryman, Outcasts and Trespassers. S1 enjoyed the interactive workshop about the process of writing her books and becoming an author, and got involved with some quiz questions. Thank you to Claire McFall, and to the North Lanarkshire Read to Succeed committee, who facilitated the visit. Also, thank you to our S6 English Subject Champions, who provided a fitting introduction.Author Visit

Welcome to our new Head Teacher – Mrs Cunningham

Welcome to our new Head Teacher – Mrs Cunningham

I am Nicola Cunningham the new Head Teacher of Our Lady’s High School. I have taken up post here from Taylor High School in Motherwell where I taught for 18 years. I was Depute Head Teacher for 11 years and during that time I was acting Head Teacher for 2 years while the Head Teacher was seconded to the local Authority. I am a Mathematics teacher and I am really looking forward to teaching some Maths here in OLHS.

Our Lady’s High School has excellent attainment and the exam results this year were among the highest in North Lanarkshire. Congratulations to all our young people, their hard work has paid off. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the hard working staff who have supported our students in achieving their best.

I have been made very welcome in the school and I have settled in to my new role quickly. It is clear to me that the school is a thriving community of faith and learning which I am very proud to be leading.

I look forward to meeting and working with you as we take OLHS forward together.

Our S5 pupils also worked hard to secure success in their exams. 12 pupils in S5 attained 5 As in their Highers, which was a fantastic achievement. Congratulations to Michael Breslin, Cerys Eschle, Rachel Farrelly, Louisa Gibson, Lucile Govan, Carmina Gray, Vanessa Liu, Katie Martin, Euan McDonald, Megan Murphy, Anna O’Reilly and Skye Richardson.

Additionally, 23% of our pupils achieved 5 Highers, 49% achieved 3 or more Highers, and 76% achieved at least one Higher in S5.

Well done to all our pupils in their recent SQA exams, which again this year are amongst the very best performances in North Lanarkshire. We will have an opportunity to recognise this formally at our Awards Ceremony in September.
