Starting School at Kildrum
Starting school is an exciting milestone, and we work hard to ensure that every child and family feels welcomed, supported and ready for the journey ahead.
Enrolling Your Child
Enrolment for Primary 1 takes place each January. Information about registration and enrolment can be found on the North Lanarkshire Council website.
Families who live outwith the Kildrum catchment area should enrol their child at their local catchment school and submit a placing request to North Lanarkshire Council.
Come and Visit Us
Each May, we invite prospective families to visit Kildrum Primary School. Our school tours are led by our pupils, who love sharing their experiences and showing visitors around their school. Individual visits can also be arranged by appointment.
Supporting a Smooth Transition
We work closely with local nurseries and early years centres to support children as they prepare to start school.
Our transition programme includes:
- Visits to Kildrum Primary School
- Opportunities to meet staff and current pupils
- Information sessions for parents and carers
- Classroom activities designed to help children become familiar with school life
A key feature of our transition programme is our Buddy System. Throughout the year, Primary 6 pupils build relationships with younger children through visits to Kildrum Family Learning Centre, taking part in activities such as storytelling, creative play, construction and outdoor learning. Before welcoming our new Primary 1 pupils, buddies take part in a special training conference to prepare them for their important role.
Towards the end of the summer term, children have opportunities to meet their teacher and classmates for the new session, helping them begin school feeling confident, settled and excited.
