Kildrum Primary School

School Dinners

Each day the children can choose between a main meal, a snack meal or sandwiches.

A cashless cafeteria system is in operation.  Children are encouraged to put their money on their cards when they arrive in school at 8.45am.  A member of staff supports them in carrying out the process.

Packed lunches are eaten in the dinner hall.

The Senior Leadership Team is involved in supervision on a daily basis.

In good weather the children are allowed to take their packed lunches out into the patio area and eat at the picnic tables.

Special Dietary Requirements

If your child requires a special diet as a result of a medical condition e.g. coelic disease, diabetes, food allergy or intolerance, there are special forms available which must be completed by the child’s registered dietitian or G.P.  Procedures and forms can be accessed from either the school, dietitian or N.L.C. catering service.

Occasionally, parents/carers may be asked to supply prescription foods or to attend a meeting to discuss the child’s dietary requirements.

In some instances children with additional support needs may require food to be adapted to an appropriate texture or consistency.  In this instance, the child’s Registered dietitian and Speech and Language therapist will liaise with the head teacher and school catering service to ensure appropriate food provision.

Special diets required for ethical, religious or cultural reasons should be requested, in writing, to the head teacher, who will liaise with the school catering service.

 Free Meals

As of January 2015, all P.1-3 pupils are entitled to a free school meal.

Children of parents receiving Income Support or Job Seekers Allowance (income based), Employment and Support Allowance (income related) are entitled to a lunch without charge. Information and application forms for free school lunches may be obtained from schools, Municipal Buildings, Coatbridge and First Stop Shops.

Please Note:

  • Only those children who receive a free school meal are entitled to free milk at lunchtime.  Milk may however be available for purchase in the school during the lunch period.
