Learning a new language helps children develop confidence, communication skills and an understanding of the wider world. It encourages curiosity about different cultures and helps children appreciate the similarities and differences between people, languages and traditions.
Through language learning, children:
- develop their communication and listening skills
- build confidence in speaking and using new vocabulary
- learn about different cultures and traditions
- gain a deeper understanding of language and literacy
- develop skills that will benefit them throughout their education and beyond
At Kildrum Primary School, all children learn French from Primary 1 to Primary 7. Pupils in Primary 5 to Primary 7 also have opportunities to learn Spanish.
Learning takes place through a range of fun and engaging activities, including games, songs, conversations, storytelling and digital learning. These experiences help children develop their language skills while fostering curiosity, confidence and a positive attitude towards learning about the world around them.
