As another month draws to a close our wonderful Room 12 pupils said farewell to the autumnal month of November with their cosy little display of their view of nature at this time of the year….roll on Winter!
Numeracy
This month, pupils continued using technology to develop a range of numeracy skills.
Pupils have used the Sum Dog programme to develop their mathematical skills. The programme provides them with instant feedback on their progress. Data is retained and pupils can monitor their progress.
Pupils took part in a Sum Dog competition this month. They competed on-line with thousands of pupils in schools throughout North Lanarkshire and, with polls about to close, Room 12 have acquitted themselves well….watch this space for final placings….
Taught Writing integrated with Technology
This month, pupils have been focusing on integrating their writing through the medium of technology. Not only have they been using computer software programmes to research and write their stories and reports, they have have been uploading and downloading files into their space on GLOW and also communicating with their teacher from their own Outlook account.
Stage 1
Pupils used the internet to research data for their newspaper report which was based on the sinking of the Titanic. They also used the technology to complete a second piece of writing which took the form of a ‘personal’ account of their experience as a passenger on the Titanic.
Stage 2
Pupils collated information is used to form the main ideas for the report. Pupils worked in groups, pairs and then prepared their individual reports.
Stage 3
Health and Wellbeing
Talk Talk
As part of our Talk Talk programme, pupils have been exploring a range of issues that affects them in school. One of the topics for discussion centred around bullying. This was their display advocating Room 12 as a Bully Free Zone.
Science
As pupils continue to investigate properties of water, they integrated their investigation with their research into the Titanic.
The key question for them was – How did the ship manage to strike an object so vast and so visible?
Pupils learned how to make their own ‘iceberg’ and then observe it in the water. They were clearly surprised with the results!
