Room 12 had great fun learning about the Human Body during Science Week last week.
We learned about the senses of sight and hearing by investigating our eyes and ears.
We looked at Optical Illusions and investigated how they play a trick on our eyes and brain.
We investigated a model eye and learned some of the names of the parts of the eye including; retina, cornea, pupil and optic nerve.
We also investigated a model ear and learned some of the names for the different parts of the ear including; ear drum, cochlea, pinna, anvil and stirrup. The stirrup is a tiny bone in your ear which is the smallest bone in the human body.
We also carried out an experiment to test our sense of taste and smell. We had a blind taste test and had to identify three different types of crisps and had to identify coffee, vinegar and vanilla essence just by smelling them.
In P.E. we participated in different sports to exercise our heart and lungs. When undertaking different exercises such as walking and running and skipping and bean bag throwing we compared how out of breath we got after participating in the sport for 3 minutes.
We carried out an experiment using a peak flow meter to measure our lung capacity.
On Friday we dressed as Mad Scientists, even Miss Jones!
