We ASPIRE to be the best we can be

Home to Nursery

🏠➡️🌼

We work in partnership with families to support a positive and supportive start to nursery.

Starting nursery is an important step for both children and families. We aim to build strong, trusting relationships from the very beginning so children feel safe and settled, and families feel informed, reassured and supported.

Our aim is for every family to feel welcomed, valued and part of our school community from the start.

🤝 Our transition approach

When your child is allocated a nursery place, you will be offered an opportunity to meet a member of the Senior Leadership Team and/or our Nursery Lead Practitioner. This initial meeting allows us to begin getting to know you and your child and to share key information.

We also hold a nursery open event for children and families who are due to start. This provides an opportunity to explore the environment, meet staff and connect with other families.

We recognise that there can often be a gap between being offered a place and starting nursery. During this time, families are very welcome to contact us with any questions or share anything they feel is important. We encourage early contact to help build confidence and support decision-making.

As your child’s start date approaches, their keyworker will contact you to check in, gather any updates and talk through arrangements for the first day.

🚪 Starting nursery

Our transition process is flexible and tailored to each child. On their first day, children attend with a parent or carer for a short session. This allows time to meet staff, complete key information and begin to settle into the environment.

What happens next will depend on how your child settles. Some children begin with shorter sessions, while others are ready for longer days more quickly. We take a responsive, nurturing approach to support each child to feel safe, secure and ready.

🧩 Getting to know your child

To support this, we ask families to complete our “What Matters to Me” Home to Nursery booklet together.

This helps us understand your child as an individual, including their routines, interests, communication and anything that helps them feel safe and included. This ensures we build a full picture of your child from the beginning.
