At Abronhill Primary School and Nursery Class, we are committed to reducing the cost of the school day so that all children can take part fully, feel included and enjoy their learning.
We recognise that financial pressures affect families in different ways and work carefully to reduce these wherever possible.
Our approach shapes how we plan learning, activities and events, helping to reduce costs and remove barriers for families.
💷 Our approach
Through this work, we:
- provide clear, accessible information about financial support available to families
- ensure there are no barriers to learning caused by financial circumstances
- promote inclusion and reduce stigma linked to cost
- support families to access financial help and wider services where needed
🏫 What this looks like at Abronhill
We take practical steps every day to support children and families, including:
- providing school resources, clothing and equipment so all children can take part
- offering access to a school clothing bank and essential items
- providing food support and supplies where needed
- ensuring all children receive key items (e.g. stationery, water bottles, care kits) to reduce stigma
- having a ‘no gifts’ approach to reduce financial pressure on families
- planning events and activities to keep costs low or remove them altogether
We also work closely with partners and community organisations to support families, including:
- inviting local services into school during events (e.g. financial advice, food support, period products, community provision)
- signposting and referring families to support such as North Lanarkshire Council’s Tackling Poverty Team (Financial Inclusion Team) for advice on benefits, debt and income
Our ‘Our Community Cares’ approach brings together school, families and the wider community to ensure support is available when needed.
