Binary 2’s Complement
I posted on this last year, I don’t feel the need to go back over it. However, if you would like me to give another full post please just ask.
Remember for 8 bit 2’s complement the column headers are -128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1
The homework for tonight is to convert the following to binary using 2’s complement, the answers should be in Bytes so either 8 or 16 bits.

Digital sources of information.
All of the class have been given a login and password for the following sites. I have verified that each pupil’s login details work within the class, they have all assured me they have tested these from home.
We have been using Glow within the class this year and I have uploaded all the course notes, past papers, past course works & revision materials to the various Glow areas. All pupils are encouraged to contribute to the Glow forum & blog for the subject. Scholar has its on discussion board which is staffed by Scholar approved teachers & lecturers. Materials and quizzes can also be found on the school’s website and a copy can be lifted directly from the school’s server using a flash drive.
This term has seen the introduction of Glow mail, the pupils can use this to send messages directly to my Glow inbox. Details are given within the Glow groups.
Hopefully the pupils will make full use of these digital resources; usage stats show a slow but steady uptake.
Posting rights
I have removed these from pupils temporarily . I will reinstate them next week once you have had a little more training 🙂

Topics to look up for resit
For those unlucky enough to have failed the NAB make sure you look over all your notes. You might want to focus on the following areas.
- Evaluation Vocab
- Types of maintenance
- Local / Global Variables
- Compilers & Interpreters
- Scripting language examples
- Bottom up design
You have your Scholar & Glow usernames and passwords so get on the sites and do some research.
Homework Due 22/11
SQA Past paper 2007 Section 2 questions 20 & 21. Please don’t use the solutions on the web, that defeats the point of homework. If you don’t know it, go research it, you have the world’s biggest library at your finger tips.
Software Development NAB
The NAB was carried out today on paper. I used Solar last year but I felt there was a bit of a disconnect between me and the assessment.
Back to the old ways for this year anyway.
Today’s Revision
Make sure you have given Scholar’s end of topic assessment a go as this will help focus your last minute study.
