FAQ – Calculations
I have produced quite a few blog posts on calculations and I think that multimedia and computer systems posts have enough in them. Continue reading FAQ – Calculations

FAQ – Resampling
Pupils often get resampling confused with other multimdia terms.
When a lower resolution graphic is scaled up to a higher resolution, pixellation results, which spoils the look of the graphic. Resampling can be used to smooth out the image with the graphics software making a “best guess” as to the missing information.
This tutorial walks you through resampling on Adobe photoshop and here is one for GIMP.
SVG Example
Using inkscape I created the image below. SVG is a object oriented graphics file format where object are described using attributes.
To get the file into the Glow blog I had to save it as a PNG file, rather than the SVG file format that inkscape uses. Here is a copy of the SVG file as text. Continue reading SVG Example
Multimedia Calculations
I have gathered these from a few Internet resources – sorry I don’t have all the names for accreditation. If you need more practice try this spreadsheet or PDF from Madras Continue reading Multimedia Calculations
Dithering
No this isn’t me commenting on your lack of study 😉
This is creating the illusion of other colours by placing existing colours side by side. We can see every day examples of this in newspaper print. Here are some other examples.
Here is a little illusion to help you see how the brain can make colours when there are none. Stare at the dot and don’t move your eyes.

Vector based image editing
We created some SVG files in class last week and as I explained at the time, the normal way to create these images is to use a graphics package and save the SVG file. Inkscape is a free vector graphics package, there are lots of tutorials for it on the internet. I enjoyed the gears tutorial, it was a good intro to the main tools and concepts.
If you have a creative side take it for a spin.
Multimedia NAB
Took place today and signaled the end of the course.
Remember there will be an exam on the Tuesday we return from holiday, it will cover the Multimedia unit as well as a question on each of software development and computer systems. The resit for the NAB will be on the Wednesday.
The two weeks when we return will be spent on Past Paper questions. Please make sure that over the Holidays you attempt all the papers I gave you . This will allow you to create a list of “problem topics” we can then use these in class for revision or to create the FAQ on the blog.
Please keep commenting on the blog over the holidays and feel free to drop me an email via Glow. I will be checking this during the holidays.
WARNING!! I know computing is the last exam for a lot of you, that DOES NOT mean you can leave studying for it till the last minute. Little and often is my motto, if you haven’t started then START.
