Basics Food Bank Collection

Pupils and staff have been collecting for the Basics Foodbank located in Wishaw. We were delighted to be able to hand over a significant amount of food to David Shaw, worker at the Food Bank, who with his team of volunteers would organise and distribute to families in need. A sincere thanks is due to anyone who contributed to the charity. If anyone does still wish to contribute, Coltness High School is able to collect and will arrange uplift from the food bank at a later date. Written by A.Mullen

We are hoping to produce a school newspaper/magazine as well as work in conjunction with the Wishaw Press to bring our news to the whole community. If you’re interested in being part of the team please come to a short meeting in E5 on Wednesday at 12.50. Written by L.Duncan

S1 Indoor Rowing Club Abby Lawson, Beth Lennon and Cara Lennon, all of 4L1, would like to invite S1 pupils to attend their indoor rowing club in the fitness suite on Mondays after school. The girls, all members of Strathclyde Rowing Club, are keen to encourage as many of our new pupils as possible to come along to this new club. Scottish and British rowing has enjoyed great success and we wish our three rowers equal success in their sport and commend them on their enthusiasm in encouraging other pupils to gain some experience, improve their strength and get a real taste of this excellent discipline. Good luck girls! Sports Profile – Craig McRoberts – Swimming Craig McRoberts, 4S1, is one of our

Visit to Glasgow Sheriff Court

S3 pupils from Mrs Mullen’s English class enjoyed a visit to Glasgow Sheriff Court last Thursday morning. Pupils have been studying a short story where a teenager is involved in knife crime. The visit to the busiest court in Europe allowed pupils to see just a little of the grim reality of being involved in crime. As well as this, it allowed them to see the workings of various types of courts. The group witnessed a hearing in the same court as what the recently ‘Glasgow Bin Lorry’ case took place. One of our girls, Sophie Barratt, was thrilled to get a chance to be in the Witness stand, while the full group all enjoyed the chance of being in the dock –

Hall of Fame

Hall of Fame What started as a Physical Education Hall of Fame at Coltness High School has grown arms and legs to become a whole school feature. Given the large number of individuals who have come through the school and become professional footballers it was muted that a Hall of Fame may be a nice feature to try to encourage and motivate the current crop of youngsters coming through the school. Roger Hynd who starred in the European Cup Winners’ Cup final in 1967 for Rangers against Bayern Munich and Iain Browning who played for various professional clubs including a spell under Sir Alex Ferguson during his first managerial spell at East Stirlingshire, had been teachers in the PE department for a number
