University of Strathclyde

University of Strathclyde are offering 2 week-long programmes for pupils in S4 and S5. Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Product Design, Psychology and Sport from Monday 20th to Friday 24th June. Rainbow Flag

To commemorate IDAHO (International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia) the council is flying the rainbow flag today at the Civic Centre for the first time. IDAHO was created in 2004 to draw the attention of policymakers, opinion leaders, social movements, the public and the media to the violence and discrimination experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and inter-sex (LGBT) people internationally. The council is committed to eliminating all forms of prejudice and discrimination. Flying the rainbow flag sends a strong message to our communities and employees that we value and stand with people who have experienced discrimination and violence. David Turnbull

Congratulations to former pupil David Turnbull who reached another milestone in his footballing career by making the Motherwell FC first team bench for the last game of the season against Celtic at Parkhead on Sunday. Although he didn’t make it onto the pitch the fact that Motherwell Manager Mark McGhee was willing to let him savour the atmosphere of a 49,000 crowd at Parkhead on the final day of the season clearly means he has big plans for him next season. The score aside this would have been a fantastic experience for a 16 year old finishing his first full year at his local club. Matrix Fitness Women’s Grand Prix and Pearl Izumi Tour Series

Motherwell will host the Matrix Fitness Women’s Grand Prix and Pearl Izumi Tour Series from 5.30pm on Tuesday 17th May. This is a great opportunity to see the leading UK cyclists competing around the 1.2km town centre circuit. World Champion Katie Archibald and Ed Clancy are among the top cyclists taking part.
