Over the last 4 years North Lanarkshire’s Working have supported over 7000 people into work and with thier new Prospects programme will continue to do so. Working closely with their partners at Routes to Work they offer a wide range of support, training and advice including in work support, training and confidence building and other council services such as Debt and Money Advice. Music SQA Exams
Final official SQA Practical Music Exams are taking place in the school this week on Thursday 9th March and then next week on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. All S4 and S5/S6 music exam pupils have been given 2 exam slot times and the exact times have been posted outside Mr Johnston’s music room. All Coltness High music pupils are aware of these times. These are final official SQA exams in front of a visiting external examiner and cannot be missed otherwise no award will be given for the pupil’s Nat 5/Higher music. If a pupil is ill on the day of their scheduled exam time slot the school must be informed and Mr Johnston will call you back to explain the doctor’s medical certificate
Street Soccer and Dance NL
Street Soccer and Dance NL – Drop in sessions Tuesday’s between 7 to 9pm at Coltness High School. Street Soccer and Dance NL targets young people aged 9 – 18, it encourages young people, parents and residents to help create an improved sense of health and wellbeing in their communities utilising football/dance as a ‘tool’ to divert young people. The Street Soccer sessions use a portable football pitch, skills zones and specialised coaches to attend hot spot areas without the need for expensive permanent facilities. Partners benefit from the relationships nurtured and then offer alternatives. HMI Visit – Coltness High School We are delighted to report that following a visit to the school last week, Her Majesty’s Inspectors (HMI) have commended the significant progress made since their initial visit in February 2014. They will make no further visits to the school. Inspectors particularly commended the gains made in the qualifications achieved by youngsters, with an improving trend evident in recent years. This is matched by young people moving on to positive destinations after school, whether this be to higher or further education, training or employment. Inspectors noted that the curriculum offered to young people had been strengthened, with a greater variety of learning pathways on offer. Happy World Book Day
Bea Ferguson, a storyteller from Edinburgh entertained many of our 1st and 2nd year pupils’ with several stories on Tuesday 28th Feb as part of our World Book Day celebrations. This is the 20th anniversary of World Book Day in the UK and is a celebration of authors, storytellers, illustrators, books and most importantly it’s a celebration of reading! We also had a few other W.B.D activities for our pupils’ including: World Book Day Quiz Who am I? (Name staff using their autobiography title) Design a WBD Book Token Written by Mrs Leckie.
