Visit to Glasgow Sheriff Court
S3 pupils from Mrs Mullen’s English class enjoyed a visit to Glasgow Sheriff Court last Thursday morning. Pupils have been studying a short story where a teenager is involved in knife crime. The visit to the busiest court in Europe allowed pupils to see just a little of the grim reality of being involved in crime. As well as this, it allowed them to see the workings of various types of courts. The group witnessed a hearing in the same court as what the recently ‘Glasgow Bin Lorry’ case took place. One of our girls, Sophie Barratt, was thrilled to get a chance to be in the Witness stand, while the full group all enjoyed the chance of being in the dock –
Hall of Fame
Hall of Fame What started as a Physical Education Hall of Fame at Coltness High School has grown arms and legs to become a whole school feature. Given the large number of individuals who have come through the school and become professional footballers it was muted that a Hall of Fame may be a nice feature to try to encourage and motivate the current crop of youngsters coming through the school. Roger Hynd who starred in the European Cup Winners’ Cup final in 1967 for Rangers against Bayern Munich and Iain Browning who played for various professional clubs including a spell under Sir Alex Ferguson during his first managerial spell at East Stirlingshire, had been teachers in the PE department for a number
S1 Indoor Rowing Club
“An after school indoor rowing club starts on Monday 14th September in the fitness suite. 4th year rowers Abby Lawson, Cara Lennon and Beth Lennon shall be leading the session under the watchful eye of Mr Miller (Biology). School Food Day September 23rd 2015
This year is Scotland’s Year of Food and Drink and there have been a number of promotions to raise awareness over the past few months. In September there is a focus on School Meals and to mark this, Wednesday 23rd September has been designated School Food Day. Young Ambassadors
Congratulations to sixth year pupils Linsay McIloney and Callum Buttery who have been named as Coltness High Schools Young Ambassadors for 2015/16. The standard of applicant was high again this year, with a record number of applications. Linsay and Callum will now attend a Regional Young Ambassadors conference at Hampden Football Stadium on Wednesday 16th September accompanied by Active Schools Coordinator, Joanne Cuthbertson.
