Basics Food Bank

Basics Food Bank, the Pupil Council and myself wish to express a very sincere thank you, thank you, thank you to all the staff and pupils who contributed to this week’s collection. The Pupil Council were exceptionally busy this morning, organising almost 2000 items of food. Wow! Nearly 2000! This will go such a long way in helping local families. The House competition was unbelievably close, neck and neck between Arran and Skye. Skye just managed to overtake at the very end, winning by only 2 more tins of food. Well done to all three houses! It was an absolutely AMAZING effort put in by our fabulous Coltness pupils

SLT Remit Update

Congratulations to Mr MacPherson who joins us again on the school’s Senior Leadership Team. He will become the main point of contact on an interim basis for Arran House beyond any contact with PTs Pupil Support (Guidance Teachers). We are currently in the process of trying to find a replacement for his PT Pupil Support post. Mrs Anderson on an interim basis will also continue as SQA Coordinator. As always however your main and first point of contact with the school should be your young person’s PT Pupil Support.

Open European Championships

One of our first years has done exceptionally well in the Open European Championships in Poland at the weekend. He reached the quarter finals for patterns and the semi finals for sparring where he picked up a bronze medal!

Tempest Photography

Tempest Photography will be taking official school photographs for S1 and S4 on Monday 22nd October. Please be ready that day in full school uniform including tie and blazers.

UCAS Applications 2019

Personal Statement Draft 1 deadline is 27/10/2018 Please submit these to your Pupil Support teacher on or before the deadline. Your PTPS should also be made aware if you have any concerns / if you have decided to withdraw from the UCAS application process.

The Pupil Council are working in Partnership with Basics Food Bank based in Wishaw, looking to collect as many tins / jars of food as possible. They have organised a House Competition, asking pupils to bring into school a small donation before next Friday 12th October. Three very desirable items are: Tins of Fruit Tins of Rice Pudding Tins of Custard We would much appreciate any long-life foods though. Pupils should give any donation to their Pupil Support Teacher, or take these to English Room 3. Many thanks for your support. The Pupil Council.

Author Bali Rai Visits Coltness High School

As part of North Lanarkshire Council’s ‘Read to Succeed’ reading for pleasure initiative, all our first year pupils’ were treated to a visit from award winning author Bali Rai. Bali also delivered a creative writing class to a class of third year pupils’ and gave them some ideas on how to begin writing stories.

Award Winning Author Visits Coltness High School

Jonathan Meres, author of bestselling, award-winning series, The World of Norm, visited the school to have a talk to first and second year pupils’ who take part in the ‘Read, Write, Ink’ reading initiative.  The pupils’ and staff found him to be very funny, entertaining and engaging but also informative about his life as an author. He will definitely be getting another invite to Coltness High School!

Nuffield Foundation Summer Research Placements

A huge congratulations to two of our senior pupils who have completed successful Nuffield Foundation Summer Research Placements at the University of Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian University. Both students were given the opportunity to showcase their hard work at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, last Thursday, impressing invited guests. We done to both of them on this fantastic achievement. If any current S5 pupils are interested in applying for next year’s placement see Miss Feighan for details.
