UCAS Applications 2019

Personal Statement Draft 1 deadline is 27/10/2018 Please submit these to your Pupil Support teacher on or before the deadline. Your PTPS should also be made aware if you have any concerns / if you have decided to withdraw from the UCAS application process.  

      The Pupil Council are working in Partnership with Basics Food Bank based in Wishaw, looking to collect as many tins / jars of food as possible. They have organised a House Competition, asking pupils to bring into school a small donation before next Friday 12th October. Three very desirable items are: Tins of Fruit Tins of Rice Pudding Tins of Custard We would much appreciate any long-life foods though. Pupils should give any donation to their Pupil Support Teacher, or take these to English Room 3. Many thanks for your support. The Pupil Council.

Author Bali Rai Visits Coltness High School

As part of North Lanarkshire Council’s ‘Read to Succeed’ reading for pleasure initiative, all our first year pupils’ were treated to a visit from award winning author Bali Rai. Bali also delivered a creative writing class to a class of third year pupils’ and gave them some ideas on how to begin writing stories.

Award Winning Author Visits Coltness High School

Jonathan Meres, author of bestselling, award-winning series, The World of Norm, visited the school to have a talk to first and second year pupils’ who take part in the ‘Read, Write, Ink’ reading initiative.  The pupils’ and staff found him to be very funny, entertaining and engaging but also informative about his life as an author. He will definitely be getting another invite to Coltness High School!

Nuffield Foundation Summer Research Placements

A huge congratulations to two of our senior pupils who have completed successful Nuffield Foundation Summer Research Placements at the University of Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian University. Both students were given the opportunity to showcase their hard work at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, last Thursday, impressing invited guests. We done to both of them on this fantastic achievement. If any current S5 pupils are interested in applying for next year’s placement see Miss Feighan for details.

Read to Succeed

Some of our first year pupils’ were lucky to be chosen to attend the launch of North Lanarkshire Council’s ‘Read to Succeed’ initiative, supported by NLC’s  Secondary Attainment Challenge. Every secondary school in North Lanarkshire have been given an author visit and an injection of new books for each school library.  For many years Coltness High School has encouraged reading for pleasure as it’s been shown to be beneficial in academic attainment and also health and wellbeing. Most importantly, reading can be fun and takes you on many adventures and journeys!

P7 Parents’ Information Evening

The Transitions Programme starts on Wednesday 12th September 2018 with a P7/S1 Parents’ Open Evening (7pm-8.30pm) where you are cordially invited to Coltness High School to hear about the upcoming transitions events, the staff and Faculties within the school, your child’s course of study over the next few years, extra-curricular and wider opportunities and general information regarding daily life in the Secondary School.
