Dress Down Day
Friday 21st December is a dress down day. This is free of charge. If you have a Christmas Jumper please wear it however there is no compulsion to do so! Also a reminder that the school closes at 2.30pm.
Book Week Scotland – ‘Rebel’
To celebrate Book Week Scotland, Coltness High School held a quiz centred around this year’s theme of ‘rebel’. The quiz questions were all book related and using the first letter of every correct answer this spelt the name of a famous Scottish noble who led a ‘rebellion’ against King Edward 1 of England. The answer was William Wallace and the prize draw winner was a pupil from first year. Well done to everyone who had the correct answer!
Little Amy the Guide Dog Pup Visits Coltness High School
Guide Dog Puppy Walkers Ann and Margaret together with Bobby, visited the 3rd year ASDAN group on Thursday 15th November with 18 week old Guide Dog puppy Amy. They came to give the pupils’ a talk about how they train their Guide Dog pups for the first 14 to 15 months of the dog’s life. The 3rd year ASDAN pupils’ have been responsible for fundraising for Guide Dogs for several years at Coltness High and this group will be taking over the fundraising in 2019. Good luck to them!
UEFA Youth League
One of the Depute Lord Lieutenants, Mr John Brown is a director of Hamilton Accies FC. The youth team are currently on a superb run in the UEFA Youth League and play their next game against Midtylland (Denmark) on Wednesday 28th November, kick-off at 7.00pm. The club are offering limited quantities of tickets for our pupils in North Lanarkshire Schools, and their parents. Please notify the school as soon as possible if you would be interested in tickets.
Author, Martin Stewart Visits Second Year Pupils’
Former teacher of English, now turned author Martin Stewart, visited some of our second year pupils today in the library. He gave us an insight into how he became an author and talked about his two novels entitled ‘Riverkeep’ and ‘The Sacrifice Box’. Hopefully some of the pupils will have been enthused enough to put pen to paper and begin writing themselves. His books can be found in the school library.
Dyslexia Awareness Week for Staff
Support for Learning have requested that staff support Dyslexia Awareness Week by: • Wearing the dyslexia ribbon. • Attending the coffee morning on Friday. • Reading the issued booklet with gives information and advice on dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties. • Accessing Dyslexia Scotland website where they will find a variety of resources as well as free Online Dyslexia Modules, offering a great CPD opportunity. • Referring to the strategies advised by Dyslexia Scotland for 13-17 year olds.
