Our week of work – 14/09/20-18/09/20

Literacy

This week we read some books from our new book band colours. We had fun reading the stories and showing our understanding of the story in our workbooks. We also created some wanted posters for villains we have read about in other books, here is Sophias fantastic poster for He who shall not be named:

We practiced our Key comprehension skills by looking at the life of Roald Dahl, learning some interesting facts about him and his books and then answering questions all about what we read.

We continued our spelling and Phonics work this week. P3’s have been learning the ‘aw’ and ‘ue’ sounds, highlighting words with the sound and practicing the spelling of those words in a spelling test on Friday.

Our writing this week was uplevelling sentences with vocabulary and connectives (P3’s) and continuing a short story (P4’s). From this work we chose 6 star writers for the week, 3 P3’s and 3 P4’s. Here are our choices, congratulations to Grace, Conor and Millie for the P3’s and Gregor, Olivia and Robbie for the P4’s, all excellent pieces of work:

As always, everyone tried their very best during the task and earned themselves a punch on their punch cards.

Numeracy

We continued with our exploration of time. We focused on converting analogue to digital, revised o’clock, half past, quarter past, quarter to and began to look at timetables and figuring out time past. We were so engrossed that Mr M forgot to take photos of most of our work, he’ll make sure to take more next week:

Next week we will be focusing on number and aiming to finish time topic and move onto our next topic, estimation.

Outdoors

We had amazing fun outside this week thanks to the amazing weather and a visit from active schools. We were lucky enough to be one of the first classes to take part in the Orienteering activity this week. We worked outstandingly in teams and really impressed our visitor. We were in small groups hunting around the playground to find different pictures, take selfies as a group on ipads, mark it off on our sheet and then hunt for the next picture. There were 17 pictures to find, it was amazing fun:

One of our favourite morning tasks this week was to draw the funniest picture of Mr M. Here are some of our drawings and we all agreed that the pictures were really funny and Robbies was voted the funniest:

We also had so much fun looking at the nominations for funniest animal pictures of 2020. Apparently this is the animal version of Mr M because it looks like him having a bad hair day:

Once we finished looking at these hilarious photos we then added our own captions to the photos, trying to think what each of the animals would say if they could speak in the photo:

We all loved them so much we decided we would love to make our own together as a class. So keep a look out for our class puppets making an appearance on the blog in the coming weeks.

And finally, we were chosen as one of the stand out classes in the lunch hall at lunchtimes over the past fortnight. We demonstrated fantastic behaviour and listening everyday and as a result recieved a reward of 15mins extra time outside to use when we wish. This is the second time our class has earned this reward which is a fantastic achievement.
