Our week of work – 05/10/20 to 09/10/20

Literacy

This week we read the Truth pixie goes to school as a class. We loved how the whole book was written in rhyme and identifying the rhyming words throughout the book. We loved the themes of friendship and being true to yourself. We created a word bank of what it means to be a true friend, it was great fun!

We continued to work on our spelling and phonics this week too:

For writing we continued our rhyming theme and wrote our own rhyming poems. We discussed rhymes as a class, came up with our own rhyming words and then put together a whole class poem! From there we then chose our own animal that has got loose in our house and wrote what mischief the animal would get up to! The results were hilarious (and disgusting)! Well done to Adelyn, Olivia and Gregor for being our star writers with their great poems:

Numeracy

We continued looking at estimation this week. We got to estimate sweets and even eat the sweets afterwards! We then used our ipads to estimate time outside. We estimated how long it would take for 4 people to run up the path, touch the bench and then run back! It was amazing fun:

Science

Now to the most fun we have had in class so far this year. We looked at the water cycle and the 4 different stages: Precipitation, evaporation, condensation and accumulation. We then focused on the condensation and precipitation parts of the cycle by carrying out an experiment. We worked pairs, we had a jar which we filled 3/4’s with water, Mr M then added shaving foam as our clouds and we mixed food colouring with water and used pippetes to add to the cloud. We then watched as it created beautiful, colourful rain in our jars, it was phenomenal:
