Adventurers Curriculum Outline Term 1
Hello,
This term, in The Adventurers, we have been focussing on settling into our new class, forming positive relationships with peers and adults alike and, working on our class rules and routines. The children have all settled very well and are making excellent progress.
In Health and Wellbeing, we have been working on emotions using the story ‘The Colour Monster’. The children can all discuss the emotion colours and can consider strategies to help them when they feel sad or angry.
In Numeracy, the children have been working on number recognition and formation, copying and creating repeated patterns and, some have even been working on telling the time on an analogue clock. Excellent work!
In Literacy, we have been working hard on our pencil control – exploring mark making and trying our best to improve our handwriting. We have been enjoying visits to our school library where we have the opportunity to relax and explore different texts.
This term, our topic has been ‘Harvest’. The children have learned about the Harvest process, why this is celebrated, when this is celebrated and about work on the farm. This topic has been enjoyed by all.
I am very proud of all of the children for their excellent efforts throughout term 1!

Adventurers Curriculum Outline Term 2 23.24
We had had a very busy and exciting term 2. We are all so proud of the children as they performed so well during our Supported Learning Christmas Show!
In Health & Wellbeing, we have been working on identifying emotions and utilising regulation strategies that will best support ourselves and others during challenging times.
We have been working very hard in Numeracy. Some groups have been developing their division skills as they share sets of objects equally. Others, have been working on subitising regular and irregular patterns and identifying missing numbers within a sequence.
In Literacy, we have been enjoying exploring a range of texts linked to our topic. We borrowed books from North Ayrshire’s PLA which allowed us to explore both fiction and non-fiction texts.
This term, our topic has been ‘People Who Help Us’. We have had lots of fun learning about the roles of different emergency service workers and people who help us within our local communities.

Happy New Year!
It has been lovely welcoming the children back from their Christmas break.
This month, we have enjoyed a range of learning experiences as part of our new topic – Weather. We have taken part in Science experiments, completed beautiful pieces of art and enjoyed Outdoor Learning opportunities.
We were lucky enough to experience a Burns Supper where we explored and tasted a range of Scottish foods. We learned all about Robert Burns and investigated some Scottish traditions such as tartan patterns, the myth of the Loch Ness Monster and the bagpipes.
We have all completed our Literacy, Numeracy and HWB targets for term 2 and are looking forward to developing further skills as our new targets are set.
March
It has been a busy month in The Adventurers.
In Literacy, some children have been working on mark making and letter formation while others have been focussing on writing detailed sentences using Colourful Semantics visuals. All children are making excellent progress.
In Numeracy, some groups have been naming, identifying and categorising 2D shapes and 3D objects based on their properties. We can name a variety of shapes and list their properties such as faces, edges and vertices.
In order to support our emotional regulation, we have been delving into ‘Zones of Regulation’ where we colour code emotions and learn effective tools to help us regulate.
We continue to enjoy learning within the Expressive Arts – exploring musical instruments, taking part in Art activities and developing Drama skills.
We have had lots of fun taking part in topical learning and school events such as our Easter themed Open Afternoon and Splash the Teacher for Cash for Kids.

April
It has been a busy month in ‘The Adventurers’.
In Literacy, we have been using Colourful Semantics to help us construct, state and write a detailed sentence about an image. The children have worked on this as a whole group and individually. They have written and illustrated some fabulous sentences and are very proud of their work.
In Numeracy, some of us have been completing a Data Analysis topic – gathering data, recording data and analysing data accurately. We asked staff and peers within our Supported Learning department what their favourite flavour of ice cream is and recoded our findings using tally marks. We then displayed our data on a bar graph and used this information to ask and answer questions such as “What is the most popular flavour of ice cream?”
We have been enjoying the nicer weather and have taken part in a planting topic during Outdoor Learning where we have learned what plants need in order to develop and grow as well as learning about and naming the different parts of a plant.
Our new topic is ‘Under the Sea’ – we have had lots of fun taking part in a range of Art and Sensory activities.
May
This term, we have been building life skills while accessing our local community. We have focussed on road safety and money handling as we have visited our local shop on a weekly basis to purchase ingredients for our cooking lessons.
While learning about buoyancy, we went on a walk to the local river and played a game of ‘Pooh Sticks’. We could talk about floating and sinking and had lots of fun playing this game. We wore high visibility vests and made sure to hold our adults hands in order to stay safe.
The children can now confidently discuss how to stay safe within our local community recalling information such as road safety, holding hands, bright clothing and how to access public transport.
