Primary 5

Literacy

P5 have been continuing to develop their literacy skills daily. On a Monday we learn all about our new spelling rule and practice our spelling words throughout the week. We practice our reading most days to develop our reading skills and expression. This term we will be developing our Reciprocal Skills and Comprehension strategies through our class novel ‘Charlotte’s Web’.  We have been using the ‘Talk for Writing’ programme to support us in developing our writing and grammar work. This term we will be learning how to Recount Texts. Keep your eyes peeled on our class Twitter to see our learning journey.  On a Friday we have our spelling tests and practice our cursive handwriting.

Numeracy

This term we will be developing our maths skills on:

Measurement

  • use my knowledge of the sizes of familiar objects or places to         assist me when making an estimate of measure.
  • use the common units of measure, convert between related units of the metric system and carry out calculations when solving problems.

Times Tables

  • we have been practicing our times tables through songs, patterns and through visible arrays. All the children in Primary 5 should be confident in identifying the factors of all the times tables. We will be improving our recall skills. Keep practising!

Number Talks

  • every day the children take part in a whole class Number Talk. We discuss the most efficient ways to solve tricky equations. We work together and learn a range of new ways to solve problems.

Topic

Our topic in term 4 will be focusing on Social Studies. We will             explore the different ways journeys can be made and we will             interpret information from different types of maps and locate key features within Scotland, UK, Europe and the wider world.
