Primary 1

Literacy

We are revising all words and sounds taught so far. We will continue to work hard on our digraphs and read these in words. We are still learning lots of tricky words. We have been continuing to share our feelings each day and enjoying our new reading books. We can read lots of words in the books. We can talk about different types of punctuation such as full stops, commas and question marks. We will continue to Talk about stories and learn new ones through ‘Talk for Writing’. We have learned how to write instructions.

Numeracy

We have been working on recognising numbers to 30 and beyond. We have also been practising counting 0-20, 10s to 100, 2s to 100 etc. We have been playing add and take away games on the               whiteboard and laptops. This term we will focus on developing our numbers skills by counting on and backwards from any number up to 100. We are really good at adding and taking away within 10 and beyond. Mrs McGachy says we have to practise counting whenever we can and see where we can spot numbers in the community. We will also be making graphs and learning about gathering and                 recording information.

Topic

We will be working on a World of Work topic and we will look at           different jobs. It will be great fun and will link in well with Talk for Writing.

We will be going outside lots this Term to learn in the outdoors.

Health & Wellbeing

As well as PE lessons, we will also enjoy lots of topic related                 activities as we explore our topic This will get us active inside and out. In class we will continue to talk about general health and safety and we will be learning about staying safe when we are out playing in the summer. We will continue to talk about our feelings and           emotions and explore these through stories, drama and music. We love doing our feelings check-in every day.

RE

We will be learning and saying the Rosary for the month of May. We will continue to learn more and more prayers and hymns. We should continue to say the school prayers at home with our families.

Our Class Charter

As we are a ‘Rights Respecting School’ we will continue to learn all about our rights and how to respect the rights of other people. We will be looking at and working on ‘The Right to an education’ as we get ready to take everything we have learned so far in Primary One to Primary Two.

We look forward to taking part in lots of Outdoor Learning as we move into our final term in Primary One. We have an educational trip planned which will be lots of fun and we will be busy preparing for Sports Day.
