Primary 1

We are continuing to learn our sounds through our Active Literacy programme. We have been working very hard and learning lots of new double sounds, these are called digraphs. We have been using these sounds to make words. We have also been learning lots of tricky words. We can write our own first and second names and we have been continuing to share our ‘news’ and feelings each day. We have been enjoying our new reading books and can read lots of words in the books. We can talk about different types of                     punctuation such as full stops and question marks. We are looking forward to learning lots more words and sounds and reading our books online.

We have been working on recognising numbers to 20 and beyond. We have also been practising counting 0-20, 10s to 100, 2s to 20 etc. We like to sing songs that help us count. This term we will be       focusing on adding and taking away within 10. We are really good at counting forwards and backwards from numbers. We have to           practise counting whenever we can and see where we can spot          numbers in the community. We will also be looking at different 3D shapes and using money to buy things in the classroom Post Office.

We are working on a mini topic about the weather and linking this alongside our Scottish topic Katie Morag. We will be learning some Scottish songs and poems to perform for you all.

As we are a ‘Rights Respecting School’ we will continue to learn all about our rights and how to respect the rights of other people. We will be looking at and working on ‘The Right to develop our talents’ as we celebrate success in and outside of school.
