Inclusion Support and Development Groups

WHAT ARE INCLUSION SUPPORT AND DEVELOPMENT GROUPS?

Inclusion Support and Development Groups (SDGs) are opportunities for staff to meet, share good practice and discuss pertinent issues around supporting children with additional support needs, with a particular emphasis on creating a language and communication friendly learning environment (LCFE) that enhances and promotes inclusion. The groups are run jointly by Glasgow Educational Psychology Service (GEPS) and Speech and Language Therapy Service (SLT).

The Inclusion SDGs are run separately for Early Years staff and for Primary school staff and are delivered across each of the areas.

They offer a forum to:

  • Consider how to promote a learning environment that enhances opportunities for language and communication development for all children
  • Raise awareness of gathering assessment information and planning (in line with the staged intervention framework)
  • Discuss case-related issues with colleagues from other establishments, GPS and SLT
  • Develop understanding of the needs of young people, with practical strategies on how to support these
  • Support enhanced transition planning

WHAT DO THE SESSIONS INVOLVE?

There are usually 6 sessions covering a selection of topics. These are chosen based on the needs of the group attending during the first session, but may be adapted depending on ongoing progress made. Each session will provide an opportunity for peer support and discussion, and will also include take-away tasks to implement learning and practice the use of tools or approaches covered.

Due to the nature of the sessions being collaborative and the content being shaped to the needs of the group, we encourage those who sign up to attend all sessions. Attendance certificates are given to participants who attend 3 or more sessions.
