Managing anxiety and building your child’s resilience
The three videos below are for parents and carers and offer some practical strategies and advice for supporting their children and young people to manage anxieties and build their resilience. The videos aim to first support parents and carers to understand the nature of stress and anxiety, introduce some theoretical models and then provide practical ways to help. The videos cover: how our bodies and brains respond to stress; challenging unhelpful thoughts; resilience and how we can help to build it; stress and anxiety management; self-care and relaxation. The concepts, approaches and ideas covered in the videos are relevant both generally and to the current global pandemic.

Working with parents and carers to support their child’s wellbeing and resilience
Glasgow Educational Psychology Service conducted citywide research in 2023 exploring the views and experiences of parents and carers of school age young people in building their child’s resilience and wellbeing. This was to explore links between emotional wellbeing, resilience and positive educational outcomes. Responses from 226 parents and carers of school age children in Glasgow were received via online questionnaires and a focus group. Findings were shared with school Health and Wellbeing Coordinators to establish a collaborative understanding of best practice for Primary and Secondary establishments in developing positive working relationships with parents and carers to enhance wellbeing.
