Welcome back everybody!

this week has been another crazy filled week here in P6. we have been working extremely hard on our art installation piece that represents all of the learning we have done this term about the British Indian Army during WW2.

 

we have been leaning about the British Indian army because it is a part of our heritage and history as almost all of us are from Pakistan which was a part of India during WW2.- Hanna

We made 5,000 poppies to scatter in a trail as poppies represent peace and remembrance. We did this to remember the 13 Force K6 soldiers who died fighting for Britain. – Maria

We made 13 gravestones with the name and ages of the soldiers who died both in English and Urdu. These are for the 13 soldiers who are buried in Scotland. Most of them are buried in Kingussie cemetery in the North of Scotland. – Hubaib

We made flags of Britain, Scotland and India. we placed them so the Indian flag was in the middle and the British and Scottish flags were surrounding them. We hung them from the ceiling above all the cemeteries. This represented that British history overpowers Indian history as the British Indian army are not often mentioned in the history topic of Britain during WW2 – Hanna

We made a silhouette of a British soldier and a British Indian army soldier. We then wrote phrases on them to represent their feelings during and after the war. The British soldier says selfish things like ‘we won the war’, ‘victory is ours’ and ‘no one can defeat us’ to when Britain won the war they failed to mention the other volunteers that helped them to victory. The British Indian Army soldiers has phrases such as ‘don’t forget our service’, ‘what about us?’ And ‘we will be remembered’ as we feel it is important to giving the Indian army a voice and to know what they did for Britain.- Jalal.

We made a map of the UK and India and we put a trail from the two countries with hearts on each side. This represents our desire for peace and love between the two countries. We feel that learning about the history of the two countries working together as a team will help this.- Ahmed

We made 13 poppy wreaths to place below the graves as this is something that people do as a sign of remembrance and respect. – Alisha

 

we hope those of you who came to see the performance enjoyed it and learned something from it. Our message was that this is our history and culture and so we should keep the people who fought for us in mind and give them a voice as they are not represented well enough.
